Dec. 2025
He game is fun, but it seriously lacks content. 7/10 The core concept and idea are genuinely cool, but all the mechanics should have been expanded at least twofold. You can fully complete all progression within 6-10 in-game days, which is far too fast and quickly becomes boring. There is a noticeable lack of content related to searching and inspecting vehicles. Why is there always only one person in the car - and almost always a man? There is absolutely no variety in this aspect. In real life, people often cross the border as families, sometimes with multiple cars at once, but none of this is represented in the game. If the game ever gets a sequel, I would really like the developers to follow the path of Sons of the Forest. Its developers took the first game and multiplied all the mechanics, content, and features by ten. The result was a truly great game that you actually want to come back to again and again. In short, the game has a very strong idea, but it critically lacks content and variety. Because of this, it gets boring very quickly.

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 454: βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβ˜† (9/10) Contraband Police really shouldn't be so good as it is. I mean, a traffic simulator? Doing the worst job ever invented (paperwork)? But somehow! It’s a tense, morally engaging exercise in law, logic, and human error. On the surface, you play as a border officer checking papers and scanning cars, but underneath, it’s a meditation on power, trust, and the gray spaces between legality and conscience. The comparison to Papers, Please is low-hanging fruit, but whatever, I'll always grab whatever fruit I can see. πŸš₯ Pros: [*] Tense, methodical gameplay. Every car, every bag, every ID can hide secrets. You'll have to spot inconsestities: a shade of paper too light, a wrong letter on a passport, an expired date. You'll use a UV flashlight, as well, to check for contraband. And somehow, it stays fun? You can go as serious or funny as you want, and yes, you can take bribes. [*] Morality in miniature. You can write someone off for lyingβ€”or give them a chance and risk smuggling getting through. The game forces you to weigh procedure against humanity. For me, I did not care. If you didn't have the EXACT paperwork, you're getting denied. Sob stories do not work on me. How do I know you're not lying? [*] Atmosphere. A dreary border post, a gray, rain-soaked world, and the sense that everything is slightly off. The music, the environments, the weary NPCsβ€”it all builds a feeling of being trapped between bureaucracy and chaos. But on one random day, an alarm can go off and bandits from the woods swarm to attack your post. And just like that, the grim atmosphere shifts to some wacky FPS gameplay. [*] Side content. The gameplay loop doesn't just involve paperwork. You can drive vehicles into town to buy weapons or trading supplies; drive prisoners to their new home (some kind of mining depot); and explore other areas. You can also hunt down fleeing criminals and defend your base from rebel scum. The shooting is surprisingly smooth, no complaints from me. [*] Humor and absurdity. Between the grim stakes, the game sprinkles moments of dark comedy: a smug smuggler, ridiculous contraband, or an NPC’s bizarre excuse. It reminds you that life at the border is sometimes tragic, sometimes absurd, and often both. β›• Cons: [* ] Repetitive pacing. The basic loop of checking papers, scanning luggage, and issuing rejections can feel a bit samey over long sessions. The tension is excellent in bursts, but the routine can become grindy. [*] Occasional mechanical opacity. Sometimes it’s unclear why your answer is marked wrong. I wish there was a highlighted example of the mistake you didn't catch. [*] I wish there were more ways to find contraband than the snake symbol. It got very same-y. [*] Steep learning curve for the details. IDs, stamps, and procedures require careful attention. You'll have multiple mistakes in one interaction late-game. - Work hard to earn money and upgrade the Office at Border post to max level. - Go to sleep in a literal shack. - Wake up to see that everyone has left the Border post leaving me all by myself with my fancy Office - Get really sad that game bugged out but keep working anyway because no contraband will pass my Border post. - Finish the day and go to do the daily mission to earn some more money and fight for the safety of Acaristan. - Mission NPCS also quit (nobody to accept mission from) - Go back to Border post depressed and convinced everything is lost. - Go to sleep, wake up with everyone back. - Must've been just a bad dream.

Love the game but they should add multiplayer to the campaign and infinite mode because playing as border patrol with my duo would be chaos and so much fun
