Corgi Warlock, developed and published by Xander's Corgi Arcade, is a playful side-scrolling action platformer that leans heavily into charm and humor, building its identity around a whimsical premise and a vibrant visual style. You take control of a spellcasting corgi on a quest through a fantastical world filled with eccentric enemies and over-the-top encounters, and from the very beginning, the game makes it clear that it prioritizes personality over complexity. It’s a lighthearted experience that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that tone carries through every aspect of its design. The gameplay follows a familiar structure rooted in classic arcade platformers. Players move through linear levels, dispatching enemies with magical attacks while avoiding hazards and navigating environmental challenges. The controls are simple and responsive, making it easy to jump in and start playing without a steep learning curve. Combat is centered around ranged spellcasting, with enemies approaching in waves or patterns that require quick reactions and positioning. While the mechanics are straightforward, they still demand a level of awareness, especially as the game increases in pace and fills the screen with more threats. This balance between accessibility and reactive gameplay gives it an approachable yet engaging feel. A major highlight of the experience is its support for local multiplayer. Up to four players can join in, each taking on the role of a different character, and this cooperative mode significantly enhances the game’s appeal. What might feel repetitive when played solo becomes far more dynamic and entertaining with others, as the chaos of multiple players casting spells and dodging attacks creates a lively, unpredictable rhythm. There is also a competitive mode that adds variety, allowing players to shift from cooperative play to more playful rivalry. These modes give the game a social dimension that extends its replayability beyond the main campaign. Visually, Corgi Warlock stands out with its colorful and expressive art style. Characters are animated with a noticeable sense of personality, and the exaggerated designs contribute to the game’s whimsical tone. Enemies and bosses are imaginative, often blending fantasy elements with humorous twists that reinforce the game’s playful identity. The environments, while not overly complex, provide a consistent backdrop that complements the action without becoming distracting. The overall presentation feels cohesive, with a clear artistic direction that helps the game leave a memorable impression despite its relatively small scope. However, the game’s simplicity also leads to some of its limitations. Over time, the combat loop can begin to feel repetitive, as the core mechanics do not evolve significantly throughout the experience. While new enemies and boss encounters introduce some variation, they are often built on similar patterns, which can reduce the sense of progression. Additionally, certain aspects of the design—such as level variety and mechanical depth—feel somewhat limited, reflecting the scale of the project. These elements do not necessarily detract from the enjoyment, but they do prevent the game from reaching a higher level of complexity or long-term engagement. The pacing helps mitigate some of these issues. The game is relatively short, which works in its favor by ensuring that it doesn’t overextend its core idea. Boss fights serve as standout moments, offering more focused challenges that break up the flow of standard levels and provide a sense of accomplishment. In multiplayer, these encounters become even more engaging, as coordination and shared chaos add an extra layer of excitement. In the end, Corgi Warlock succeeds as a charming and accessible indie platformer that knows exactly what it wants to be. It doesn’t aim for deep systems or intricate design; instead, it focuses on delivering a fun, visually appealing experience that is easy to pick up and enjoy, especially with friends. While its simplicity and repetition may limit its long-term appeal for some players, its personality and cooperative gameplay give it a distinct place within its niche. Rating: 7/10

In terms of looks, this seemingly little arcade platformer didn't impress. In fact, the title and store page screenshots discouraged me from playing until recently. However, you shouldn't judge a book (or game) by its cover as this was surprisingly decent. Corgi Warlock was mostly a simplistic side-scrolling run and (magic) shoot game. There was jumping, but don't expect much plaforming as it was minimal, often absent from levels. The background graphics were poor and repetitive, but the variety and cartoony charm of the monsters compensated a lot. I appreciated that each monster had its own little funny death animation instead of just blinking out. Also appreciated how big the sprites were, especially the bosses. The gamepad controls were adequate and you'll need that as the enemies keep on coming from left & right while you keep jumping to avoid enemy fire. There was a nice progression for the spells, just a few, but well paced and well button mapped. In terms of challenge, it felt fair to me although I had to try some of the more bullet-sponge bosses a few times. Nothing too complex for enemy attacks. In terms of length, it was longer than I thought it would be, at around 3 to 3.5 hours. I actually had fun playing this and it was dirt cheap too.

Originally bought for its cheap price to get the badge but then genuinely enjoyed it and completed it. The gameplay is quite simple and it took me about 4 hours to finish it but it was fun. Music's nice, humor's nice, fps nice :D Sadly there is no menu to adjust the volume of the music or sound effects so it was barely heard when casting all those spells. In fact, there was no settings menu at all, the only thing you could change is enter fullscreen mode. And another thing, at least on windows, it is not treated like most steam games, I couldnt use steam overlay or make any screenshots, F12 was bringing up chromium devtools for some reason
