this is the most "maybe" game i've ever seen. but there's no maybe option, so i'm leaning towards yes. the core loop feels really good, making little dudes to gather crystals, making other little dudes to shoot baddies, flinging frisbees at baddies, ... everything feels good in isolation. you can even buy little hats for your dudes which is 10/10. but moving beyond the basic interaction, it feels really hollow. your dudes suck at pushing or holding ground so regardless of your strategamatizing, you're still going to kill 70% of all baddies with your own 2 frisbees. enemies seem to be able to spawn infinitely and manifest wherever, so tactically cornering the map is also ... pretty pointless. you have 4 dudes you can make, (worker, melee, ranged, and healer) so there's also no reacting or composition. there's obviously a lot of love put into it, the core loop feels great, the design is consistently good, i *feel* the heart put into it, but i think this could've done with a bit more time in the oven.

This is still one of the best concepts in VR. The gameplay is fantastic. I wish the developers would revisit this. I would be eager to buy an expansion with more maps, multiplayer, and settings that allowed you to tweak the difficulty level. I would play that game A LOT.

Cosmic Trip is a strategy game in room-scale VR. It's very similar to a tower defense game; as a player you build structures and bots, and you can assist your autonomous forces with turrets, frisbee lasers, etc. The game is very intuitive, the art design is cute, and the mechanics are very fun. What's in the game is very polished, and aside from some performance issues when there's a lot of robots flying around there's not a lot I can fault it on. Basic gameplay loop boils down to fighting off waves of enemies with your bots and some of your weapons at your disposal, such as a turret or a slingshot that traps enemies for your bots to kill. While this is going on, the player collects resources (minerals and gas) to build more defenses and structures. The game is true room-scale; there is no locomotion mechanic outside of opening portals to different locations. That's about it. Gather resources, kill enemies, build, rinse, repeat. Now, this is by no means a mark of a bad game, just a simple one. Cosmic Trip is definitely one of those games that will be gauged based on how much you paid at admission and your enjoyment of the concept. Likely the only game right now that's as polished as The Lab, which is crazy considering it's very early acces and developed by a small team. VR needs more games that have this AAA level of polish to them. Gameplay is fun even in such an early stage of development, even if it's too easy. Game looks like it has a LOT of potential to be really awesome, and I love how devs plan to turn this from a tiny wave based experience into a full blown RTS, drawing inspiration from SC2 / C&C.

OMG this is excellent! There is not much content right now, but that is fine because the core game mechanics and control schema is well thought out and executed. I am so tired of developers trying to sell me bad VR alpha and beta tech demos so they can get a piece of the cut. If you are an early VR adopter looking for compelling use cases, this is one of them. Buy this game and support the devs!
