Wanted to give this game a positive review but with BIG caveat, if you're looking for something similar to Commandos, Desperados or Shadow Tactics you may be disappointed. While a lot of the mechanics are very similar to the more well known strategic stealth games the level design here is very different giving a totally different tone. Enough so if you love those game I could see you not enjoying this. Other games in genre present you with a big open sandbox full of challenges and character driven tools to figure out your own path to solve them. Crookz is designed much more like a puzzle game. The levels may look open, but once you start unpicking which switches you need to hit the unlock doors, disable camera and sensors you'll realise there's often only 1 or 2 stealthy routes through the level. So solving a level is less about creative and clutch solutions, and more about solving what the designer wanted you to do. The most satisfying way I've found to play the game is to sit and work out the order of things you need to do to solve a big chunk (if not all) of the level and queue up all the waypoints with pauses on all three characters and then just run your solution all at once. Seeing a plan come together all at once can be quite rewarding, and when it goes wrong I just reload and adjust the plan. The problem with this puzzle approach is the levels do feel very samey, with mainly increasing levels of complexity of doors and switches to unpack each time around. I also feel like a lot of the tools you can find or buy don't feel like creative ways to solve the puzzles they mainly just allow you to solve puzzles badly. Like chloroform for example, drugging the guards can help but it docks your score and finding ways around them unseen feels more satisfying. Raw dogging the level feels more like you've found the correct path through. Ultimately I do personally prefer the more sandbox style of strategic stealth game and I couldn't see this through to the end but I don't think it's a bad game. It's just a little at odds with the genre conventions.
