Taking a short break at 60 hours to leave a positive review; this game deserves much better than mixed. TLDR: this game has a lot going for it and I literally cannot stop playing it. If you are on the fence, spend 2hr (I spent 15) in their free demo then decide; the full game is basically just that but a lot more content. This game simultaneously fulfills both fantasies of smashing large armies into each other AND of destroying chaff as a one-man army. It's the power fantasy of darktide combined with the unit scale of total war warhammer, and the best part is I don't have to be a goddamn legend to play this game. There's some minor tactical depth that you can engage with (you can in fact micro every commander you have into the appropriate positions and use all of their skills) - if that appeals to you then go crazy. I just smash my army against theirs and cull chaff. There's a lot of fun scenarios that play out in this game and I really like that they put you on both sides of the dynasty warriors equations for their plot battles - sometimes you gotta throw down against someone that can solo your army in both the plot and in game and you drown them in your own blood. There's a lot of cool units to recruit, and unlike some other games, you have access one way or another to most of the units you can see (including some enemy ones). There's a whole subgame to building out your teams so they unit passives stack in your legion but for me I just like collecting units to smash into each other. This game also lets you recruit SO MANY companions (you need them to lead your squads) which is also great; I love grabbing named characters and shoving them into a giant army to fight some deific monstrosity from history. Gearing is pretty simple but also fun in this game - your weapon and some of your accessories show up on your character model (and your companion's character model) so it's always nice finding new models. It's also not super complicated so a lot of the time I just use whatever looks cool and has big number. I have a shield bigger than my character which I find hilarious. There is so much content to do. I'd describe it as the "one more turn" feeling from civ, except that turn is a a cool new unit, army build, or whole questline. I thought there'd only be a major questline per area (was thinking game would end at about 4-5 major quest chains depending how they set it up) but no, companions get entire quest lines, they combo into the side quest lines, and even after you finish a main questline it can spawn another questline. 60 hrs in, I have done 3 main questlines, have another 3 waiting and have no idea when I'll get to the end. You get unique weapons, units, and occasionally companions for doing these so I'm always having fun playing more. For the mixed - Yes, the english translation is bad. Your reading and reasoning skills will have to be at a relatively high level to get any enjoyment out of the plot, not because it's particularly dense prose, but because you will need to reason an outline of whatever they're trying to say and then deduce the actual meaning via context clues. While this can be a giant pain for many people, I put this as mixed because I actually really like the world building they do and a lot of the companion and sidequest plots are really interesting - I was doing one random sidequest which was helping someone I was 99% sure was a cultist, and it ended with him taunting and then killing an evil deity. He then gave me a cool sword. The english was bad, but the plot setup and even some of the lines where honestly great if you primarily read for meaning. Again, the translation is not good so the mental overhead for this can suck all of the enjoyment out of it, but this game reads like a passionate fanfic of someone who has several cool ideas that they actually try to tie together into a plot. It's not the lord of the mysteries but it's a lot of fun and more importantly gives a ton of great excuses to recruit cool units, fight cool enemies, and get cool weapons. The bad - this game has some bugs. It has autosaves so you can reload out of most of them to avoid softlocking yourself, the main one that is super annoying is that sometimes they screw up what text is supposed to display for certain scenes (e.g. character A is saying some text from earlier in the quest when they clearly shouldn't be, or some shopkeep is playing some unrelated quest text when you're just trying to offload your trash onto him). I've encountered this exactly once during my playthough when it mattered (during the capital MSQ) and it was really annoying but it was only for a specific part and I still got the overall plot. Some of the negative reviews have legitimate criticisms, but honestly I have a lot of the same problems they do (shit bugs out, weird translation, they removed my favorite avatar from character creation literally why do games go out of their way to deny me a heavy armor character, just let me put a bucket on my head ffs, it's all LLM anyway, GIVE ME FULL PLATE ARMOR AVATARS YOU PUT THEM IN THE GAME AS NPCS CMON) but honestly I've dealt with worse bugs and they don't stop me having fun with the game. The polish is not fully there, but the game is, and the polish is playable enough. I still can't play CK3 multiplayer without desyncing after 20 years and the devs put out fixes everyday for this game so it's not that bad on the grand scale of things. I am having tons of fun with this game and cannot recommend it enough. I have tried to get this type of experience in other games (M&B + mods, bannerlord, total war, CK) and the closest I have ever gotten was spellforce or our adventurer guild. It's not going to appeal to everyone (but you can just play the demo for 2hrs to find out) but if you've ever wanted to fulfill the fantasy of being a hero leading an army fighting everything under the sun then this game can't be beat. The only thing I want out of this game right now is more time to play it, and I suspect that when I am finally "done" the game, the only thing I'd want is more units/weapons/companions/enemies to play and fight.

This is for all people who are curious about the mixed reviews: Yes they removed the fox character from the character customization, Oh no... They removed almost all of them. They became unique characters in the game. BUT overall there are 9 more options (5m/5f --> 10m/9f). You don't even have to worry. Kitty is still a unique character you get to play later in the game. You meet her quite early in the easy campaign. The dice rolls: Yes I hate RNG in games just as much as anyone. Did they add annoying Dice mechanics? Technically no. The RNG was already there. (When climbing the mountain there was a chance you would fall or not.) The only change is that you can now visually see what chance you need or got, gameplay is still the same (so also still annoying but not worse). Yes they removed classes. Is this bad? No. As they stated in an update the knight and the commander were too identical to be unique. They were the exact same except on one point in defence and speed and a passive skill. They are both heavy melee fighters and the horse skill is unlocked at the first level. Just like ranger and marksman. They were 95% identical and not needed. Perhaps some classes are more fun than others but this is a personal preference and it might change in the future. For the troop diversity is still there. I've seen over 50 "unique" units with around 12 different trees and have only been to 2 regions. I think it's just fine, there is still soo much to choose from so I don't get the complains. And then the single player anti-cheat. Is it stupid? YES. Do I have a problem with it? Not really, I don't like to cheat and the game seems fun enough to enjoy it without. Do you hate it? That's fair and unfortunately it's still there, so a fair point. And the translation is dog shit. Yes it just as bad as the demo they really need to fix this. I just try to understand the overall meaning of the conversation and try to ignore the individual sentences. It is awful to read but they said they are fixing it. Overall I think the game is still just as amazing as the Demo and the full release expands at everything there already was. I'm having fun and if the grind becomes unbearable is to be determent so we'll see. 7/10

I have not written a review on a game before, but thought it best to do so after seeing the discussions board, and seeing other reviews. I recommend this game. It feels like a full version of the demo released earlier this year. Is it perfect? No. The localization/translation of the story into English needs work. There are spelling errors on various proper nouns through the game, thus far. Is it good enough, and does it scratch an itch? Yes. The gameplay loop is solid. You have an army, you have a main character, you have a skill tree. You progress each one, and add characters that you build out and progress as well. I personally re-started in the same area as the demo, and am enjoying what feels to be a slightly higher level of difficulty. Have they made changes to the skill trees? Yes, a bit. Time will tell if they're good or bad changes. Is there a randomization mechanic to skill checks? Yes, there is. Except that now you have a chance at succeeding on skill checks that previously you failed with no further information (in the demo). It's on sale for the next couple of weeks, and it looks to be a 50-100 hour game. For under 20 dollars (as of this review), I think it's a pretty solid deal. If you have questions about whether or not its for you, try the demo.

I normally would not review a game so early after buying it, unless it was a disaster. But I am compelled to in this case, because there has been too much kool-aid passed around. So far it has been a serious contagion of "I hear hooves, I must warn people of the zebras" But after 180 hours in the Demo, and 8 hours in the full version? I am satisfied. This is worth my time.... and for the price, it was more than worth my money. And really, those are the only two measurements of value that matter. Time and Money, it is a good game by those measures. The games data is encrypted, I dont think it is anti-cheat as has been claimed (being the source of negative reviews)..... because I have been cheating to avoid recourse grind (time it would take to gather the resources for you to upgrade your gear, after you have already made the money to do so) The general consensus for those who expected the game to be different from the Demo was "YUP, aside from dice rolls, this is what I wanted.".... there are the odd "this picture of a furry isnt available to me anymore"... but that is because some of the art used in the DEMO was used for characters in the full game.... there are A LOT of characters My only vocal concern? The dice rolls got to go. There was simply no specific reason to have them in a game with zero RNG (which I love) To address concerns brought up over this being an operation by the CCP, or some sort of scam? No one who has brought forward allegation has had anything other than anecdotal "my uncle said" or conspiratorial in nature (that this is part of some sort of geopolitical plot to... who knows? No one ever says anything specific) The worst of all, for people who were on the fence about this game.... no one who has reported the game to their anti-virus firm or to Valve has submitted a report. Or if a report has been submitted, they never got a response, or they are withholding the response they got. Personally? I dont need to be told things by Lord Gaben before I trust them. The Fallacy of Personal Incredulity is strong for some of the louder voices. I think you will enjoy this game if you have played things like Wartales, M&B Bannerlord, Sands of Salazar. Like those? Then this will be worth your time. The price is just perfect - in my unqualified opinion.

I'm quite enjoying the game, it's still got English translation issues, but it's better than it was in the Demo. It's got a bit of that Warband/Battlebrothers vibe going on but with an autobattler combat system, which i don't mind at all cause then i can just focus on enjoying the fight and watching my plan play out rather than focused so much on troop movements i never get to enjoy the scenes like other games. Was gonna add my review abit later, but people are butthurt over stupid minor things and down voting the game and i'm quite enjoying it, so i'm doin my part to prop it up abit.
