Darksiders plays like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Devil May Cry had a baby, on a budget. It's mostly linear, has a story, there's a bunch of platforming and puzzles, and there's a lot of combat where you hack and slash through things with combos. None of it's as slick as the aforementioned games, but it gets close enough to be fun. Despite being the oldest game in the franchise, Darksiders Warmastered Edition is the least problematic of the lot. It plays great on ultrawide displays, there's a RenoDX mod for great HDR, and I didn't run into any crashes or notable bugs. It's also the only Darksiders game without major perspective issues, as it has a FOV slider unlike 2 and 3 and doesn't have whatever wonky perspective Genesis pretends to be using. The main issue during gameplay are the controls. They're fine for the most part, but certain segments are very rough. Anything to do with aiming is a nightmare with a controller, but trivial with mouse and keyboard. Unfortunately the engine doesn't support both inputs at once, so switching for one of those wonky aim segments requires restarting the game. I toughed the forced aiming segments out using the controller, but it was frustrating. Aside from that the only other problems Darksiders has are weak writing and presentation of the story, as well as a terrible audio implementation particularly for cutscenes. The storytelling is improved retroactively by Darksiders 2 and both the gameplay and style the game has are enough to carry it through. As for the audio: prepare to hear dialogue and only dialogue. Music and sound effects are tuned so low during cutscenes they might as well be inaudible. A shame, because the music is actually pretty good. This audio issue is also present in Darksiders 2 and seems to be an engine problem. It's possible that playing with full surround speakers might resolve this, but any stereo or headphone user will have the same issues during cutscenes. Gameplay audio is generally fine. If you're looking for a solid action-platformer, this is pretty much that. And while the "sequels" are much more problematic in various ways, they both have their charms as well.

8/10 This little gem from the PS3 era is an old school action adventure game, with a pre-Dark souls and pre-Ubi Soft philosophy. The lore is gothic, the model design is cartoonish, very reminiscent of the World of Warcraft aesthetic (you basically play as Arthas) I find it very entertaining and relaxing, far removed from today's neverending ubisoft collecting games, or very hard Dark Souls games.

Darksiders 1-3 - 100% Completion - Short Review Franchise Score: 8/10 Been much too long since i played these games to give them a proper review but decided to make this short review in anticipation and support of the newly announced Darksiders 4 game. Overall this game and the others in the franchise are all amazing games with fun combat, good story and overall just old school gaming fun really and i enjoyed all of them, so if your in doubt, don't be, their great and you will have fun playing them, but as always, It's.. Up.. To.. You, and i'll leave it at that (^_−).
