My friend says this was the worst game he's ever played. But how can that be true? You play as Mr. Inbetween... oh, but I guess he had to play as the elf... nobody likes elves... everyone wants to be the man... the man... everyone... just ignore this games community page.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge is a jank RPG from 2011 that is halfway to being a good game. With voice acting from Laura Bailey, Lucy Lawless and Graham McTavish in the main roles we're treated to surprisingly competent work in that department for what is clearly a low budget bargain bin title. The important female characters are hilariously oversexualised, the gameplay is super basic, graphics are solid for the time period but dated now and there were a lot more puzzles and secrets than I expected, which I didn't enjoy so much. You play as either the ranger E'lara (voiced by Laura Bailey), seemingly the last living elf, or the human warrior Caddoc (voiced by Graham McTavish). Early on you encounter Seraphine (voiced by Lucy Lawless), a ghostly sorceress who offers to share her power with you as she guides you a great evil that you must defeat. Combat is your typical hack n slash as caddoc and the game turns into a third person shooter as E'lara. The movement and cover system feels very similar to gears of war, and you will need to use it if you play as E'lara becuase she is not very tanky. The character upgrade system is pure cheeks, and not the nice ones they spent way too much time making for E'lara and Seraphine, level design is often pretty bad, the loot system sucks (you have no real inventory and there isn't a merchant system in place), your consumables are ridiculously limited and it takes ages to earn more item slots, items can easily get stuck in the ground so you might not even get the tiny bit of loot you need to survive and rather than doing something interesting with the gold you can find in the campaign it is only used in the online mode that was tied to GameSpy, whose services were fully shut down in May 2014. Even on easy difficulty, this game gets too hard for how jank it is. You can easily get stunlocked, it controls kinda poorly, they just keep throwing enemies at you mindlessly, and there are some awful hold out sections that exist solely to tempt you into drinking a silver liquid called Sleg. It is worth noting that if either character drinks Sleg even once you are automatically locked into a bad ending. Your AI partner does not drink Sleg on their own, thankfully. I managed to get through it without trying the stuff, because I'd looked up what would happen after passing the first of these holdout sections without it and decided I would stubbornly get the good ending. I'll be here forever if I keep going, so I'll quickly finish up and recap what I've already said. The good: Voice acting for important characters is well done, and passable for side characters Sometimes the dialogue is amusing, even if its usually in a so bad it's good way E'lara and Caddoc are pretty likeable, I was fond of them and their friendship dynamic The gameplay is fun enough to make up for the game's shortfalls, especially once it clicked and I figured out how to properly play as E'lara The mid: The puzzles really aren't great Graphically it looks a bit rough by modern standards, can't knock it too hard though as it would have been fine for the time The story is okay, mostly The game's length is pretty much perfect for what it is Enemy/character design balances out to be okay, some are really cool but most are generic and boring The bad: Level design is usually terrible Controls kinda suck Jank game full of bugs Chapters are too long (although with frequent checkpoints) Loot system sucks, could use a merchant system Character skill/ability development is terrible Bossfights mostly suck, the one good bossfight was pretty much stolen from Gears of War Weird difficulty curves, it feels like a rollercoaster at times The online and some parts of the offline are nonfunctional due to GameSpy dependence Overall I don't feel like it's worth more than a 4 or a 5 out of 10 for quality, but the fun rating was a solid 7/10 for me. The full price is fair, but if you can get it on sale I would recommend doing that instead. Originally I was going to keep this in the "keep installed" section of my library as I figured I would try the level selection and maybe hunt down all the collectibles, but as I thought about this game some more before reviewing I realised I don't really care about that and don't want to play the game again.

Blindly playing Hunted: The Demon's Forge in 2026 was actually an unexpectedly pleasant experience. At it's core it's a cover based shooter similar to Gears of War but manages to pull that off with less success. That being said, Hunted has its own formula for things and it's still worth every bit of the 12 or so hours it takes to play through the campaign at least once. The story is kind of hokey. You start off blindly taking obviously bad advice from a scantly clad ghostly looking woman voiced by Lucy Lawless because Caddoc saw her in a dream once and it only goes downhill from there. You spend the next 6 chapters solving minor puzzles and fighting your way through cities and dungeons full to the brim with different enemies. The jokes are corny and the banter between the games two protagonists Caddoc and E'lara is funny at times but will have you rolling your eyes at points as well. E'lara's outfit is "strategically placed" and so are the camera angles it seems. True to it's 2011 roots you'll find plenty of good old fashioned violence as you decapitate monsters from afar with your arrows and blow them to pieces with your magic. You will gain progressively better gear as you adventure forth and your characters main weapon comes in a slow, medium and fast version for a decent bit of variety. The upgrade system tied to your abilities gives you a reason beyond "just because" to really explore all the side paths you come across. That being said I wish this game had Steam achievements or something to incentivize collecting all the odds and ends not tied to character progression. In the 12 hours I spent obtaining one of the bad endings I only came across one game breaking bug during Chapter 5 where an enemy required to be slain got stuck under an elevator. Luckily I was able to use an aoe effect spell on a crack in the floor to cheese my way through the issue. (Loading previous checkpoint failed to correct this issue mulitple times) Could have just been a one off thing that happened to me but be aware it could happen towards the end of the game to you as well. Overall for $5.00 and even better at $1.50 on sale this game is a no brainer. Add it to your library and give it a quick playthrough, it is 100% worth it. Highly recommend this leap back in time to when games weren't afraid to be as silly as this one is.

This game is really good. Its very simple, not complex. Its stupid fun and has great dialogue and a nice story. Its nothing MAJOR, but its still amazing. Better than the AAA slop we get fed. This game was made when Unreal Engine 3 just came out and was basically a promotion for it. It runs very well but is a bit janky at times. Overall I can't recommend it enough. A hot chick and an kick-ass dude killin demons. Theres also multiple endings.

This is a great RPG with a good storyline. The graphics are just as good as $ 60 games and it is less than $ 10. You really get your money's worth out of this game and it would be a shame for you to miss out. So if you love a good story and love RPG games I really think you should consider adding this masterpiece to your collection.
