DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia is a classic character-driven visual novel that’s primarily aimed at fans of the series. It focuses on spending time with the cast, making dialogue choices, and steering the story toward different routes and endings. If you’re here for action gameplay, it won’t deliver that, but if you like relationship-focused VNs with anime humor and romance, it fits the bill. The structure is built around branching decisions and route hunting. You’ll make frequent choices that affect which scenes you unlock and which character focus you end up with, and the game encourages replaying to see alternate outcomes. Some pathing can feel picky if you’re trying to reach a specific ending, so saving often is basically part of the experience. Writing-wise, it stays true to DATE A LIVE’s tone: light banter, flirtation, and occasional emotional turns. The best moments are the quieter character scenes where personalities bounce off each other and you get more insight into motivations. The story can feel more like an extended “what-if” scenario than a must-see canon arc, but it’s still entertaining if you’re invested in the characters. Presentation is what you expect from a modern VN: sharp character art, lots of expressive portraits, and a clean interface that keeps reading comfortable. Backgrounds and CGs do the heavy lifting in key scenes, and the style stays consistent throughout. The overall production isn’t flashy, but it’s polished enough to keep you immersed. Audio adds a lot, especially if you enjoy the series’ voice cast. Music supports both the comedic and dramatic scenes without getting in the way, and voice acting helps sell even the more straightforward dialogue. It’s the kind of VN where playing with sound on noticeably improves the experience. The main drawback is that your enjoyment depends heavily on how much you already care about DATE A LIVE. If the characters don’t click with you, the long stretches of reading and route repetition won’t feel rewarding. Also, if you’re expecting a big mechanical twist or deep systems, the game is more about narrative flavor than innovation. Overall, DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia is a solid fan-service VN in the best sense of the term: more character time, more routes, more cute and dramatic moments. It’s best approached as a comfort read for fans rather than a standalone entry point. If you enjoy visual novels and DATE A LIVE’s cast, it’s an easy addition to your Steam library.

Amazing story and interesting cover character, her backstory and motivation. It's kinda tricky to get the "extra" ending (how the true ending is called here), but it is totally worth it. Of course, similarly to earlier entries, it is a bittersweet one, but like other DaL games, it is of high quality. It was good to meet all the Spirits from up to 3rd season of anime (or 12th light novel) and even more in true ending (something nice for earlier DaL game fans). Pity that all routes are a bit short (one or two days more added to 3 would be sufficent), but it is better to have "shorter" game of higher quality than dozens of hours long slog. Fans of the series will of course enjoy it, but everybody who likes a lighthearted and wholesome VN should find it a worthwille experience. Overall a masterpiece, I wonder if there will be another one with Mukuro and Nia included, but even if Ren Dystopia is the last entry in DaL video games it is a fitting sendoff.

A great experience. It is much more of a traditional visual novel structure than the earlier entries in the series. The voice acting is absolutely fantastic throughout. In a way, that is to be expected from such a veteran cast. But it was still a real highlight. Natsumi's voice actress steals so many scenes. She gets to do a lot without words and lights it up every time. Harem Master Shido has no time to waste with the route shenanigans of other visual novels. He simply chooses a location to go to and that locks him into one girl's route. He has roughly three choices to make over a course of a few days in-game for each route. Make all of the choices correctly and he gets a positive ending. Make any choice incorrectly and he gets a bad end for the route. There's a route for each of the nine main spirits in his life. The routes feel perfectly in sync with the anime and the manga. The characters are all true to form. Some of the routes are pretty hilarious, like Origami's route and Kaguya's route. Some of the routes let the girls temporarily become the best version of themselves, like Yoshino's route and Natsumi's route. And some of the characters have great moments in other routes, along with their own. The newest character, Ren, is where the structure gets more interesting. Her route has more requirements and more possibilities in it. And close to what I thought was the end of her route, I was pretty happy with the overall experience. No complaints at all, but not something that I figured would stick with me. And then it got a LOT better. The final few in-game days of the story are an amazing trip. Very few visual novels have just hit me that powerfully at the end. It ties together all the other routes as well as the previous games in the series. There are a lot of funny moments and a lot of heartwrenching moments. I'm still really impressed with what they managed to pull off. Everything else was top-notch, too. There is a gallery/library that lets you see all the CGs, replay all the scenes, learn more about the characters, explore topics that get mentioned, etc. The deluxe edition content isn't quite as good as the previous entries in the series, but it is still really good. There was one achievement that was a bit annoying to get, but otherwise it is a pretty easy 100%. Heavily influenced by the incredible last section of the game, I loved it. If you like the series at all, this is a must play.

Another magnificent work of Koshi Tachibana and Tsunako, they never disappoint with the story and the art. I highly recommend in playing this game if you are a Date A Live that started from the Light Novels or the Anime.
