Deadlight is a side-scrolling survival game that stands out through its atmosphere, visual identity, and strong sense of tension. Set in a ruined world shaped by fear, isolation, and collapse, it presents a version of the zombie apocalypse that feels more reflective than explosive. Instead of focusing on nonstop combat, the game builds its identity around movement, vulnerability, and the constant pressure of staying alive in an environment that never feels safe. One of the game’s greatest strengths is its presentation. The silhouette-based art style gives Deadlight a distinct visual character, turning ruined streets, abandoned buildings, and collapsing interiors into scenes that are both bleak and memorable. The environments communicate danger without relying on excessive detail, and the cinematic framing helps the journey feel dramatic from beginning to end. This artistic direction gives the game a personality that separates it from many other post-apocalyptic titles. Gameplay in Deadlight is built around platforming, timing, and resource management rather than empowerment. The protagonist is not designed to feel unstoppable, and that choice works in the game’s favor. Encounters often feel tense because every mistake carries weight, whether the player is escaping a trap, avoiding a horde, or deciding whether a fight is even worth the risk. The result is an experience where survival feels earned rather than guaranteed. At the same time, the game is not without flaws. Some mechanics can feel stiff, especially when precision is required under pressure, and a few sections rely on trial and error more than they should. Combat, while intentionally limited, does not always feel satisfying, and the controls can occasionally work against the pacing instead of supporting it. These issues do not ruin the experience, but they do prevent the game from reaching its full potential. Narratively, Deadlight succeeds because it keeps its tone serious and focused. It tells a personal survival story rather than trying to overwhelm the player with excessive lore or spectacle. The emotional weight comes from the world itself and from the sense that every step forward is difficult. While the writing is not especially complex, it fits the game’s structure well and supports the bleak, exhausted mood that defines the entire experience. Overall, Deadlight is a stylish and thoughtful survival platformer that leaves an impression through mood, restraint, and visual design. It may not be the most mechanically refined game in its genre, but it understands how to create tension and maintain emotional pressure throughout the journey. For players who appreciate atmospheric games with a darker tone and a more vulnerable approach to survival, Deadlight remains a memorable and worthwhile experience.

Not sure why the reviews are Mixed.. I thought that it was for compatiblity issues for the game is quite old, but it worked just fine when I revisited it after 13 years.. omg it feels like yesterday! Btw this was my first digital purchase from Steam - no kidding. I made a promise for 26 not to buy too much new games but rather visit some older unfinished ones that have been forgotten in the corners of my library too long. I am happy that I gave this old pice a chance. And all in all I liked it even when controls are bit clunky and one hectic running park-our scenario made me almost to give up I made it and saw the credits roll. Mostly the gameplay is really good and challenging as well and you are easily overrun by zombies if you do not act carefully. You find axe and some modern weaponry on your way, but these are to be used only if it feels necessary - clever use of environment and agile parkour skills are your best weapons. The game's apocalyptic and hopeless atmosphere and set designs already make it clear that you are not gonna save the world all by yourself guns blazing. Even when I died quite a many times in playthrough the checkpoints are usually even surprisingly fair and I managed to play it through in less than 4 hours, which felt rather fitting than being cut short. Not that bad game at all if you are after some survival 2.5 action and do not mind of the dull story. I warmly recommend to play this with a controller!

Decent 2.5D zombie adventure game. Solid story, nice comics cinematics, theme, music and sound effects. I recommend this game.
