I don't know what are you expecting from this review. For real, are the same developers that made the best Bike game ever made but now with boards and new expanded ideas. If you want a summary, you need to try it, the level of freedom and manual control you need to master is really impressive and immersive. My brain always turn on, that feel of concentration I have when I do Biking and Skiing is really wild. Please always play on First person perspective you won't regret it. As for the date the game is really in a good shape and I'm really happy for the future of this project. Thank you for reading me. -Cynda

First, Disregard my measly playtime on Steam, i've already put 50 or something into the gamepass version and decided to purchase it to support the Devs. Descenders is one of my favorite sports games of all time. Descenders Next is pretty good, but in its current state is veryyyyy bare bones. It's enjoyable, but is still in progress. Right now, the physics are a little bit off. It seems that there isn't enough friction. You gain way too much speed way too quickly with no truly effective way of slowing down. The 'intended' way to slow yourself down is to carve and weave, but you gain so much speed so quickly that its mostly ineffective. This is by far the largest feedback from the community at this time. Also, the procedurally generated tracks are currently in an experimental phase and don't have any variety. Right now there appear to only be the "Standard" track, the "Fire" Track, and the "Danger" Track. And all three need some tweaking to their procedural equation. In addition, the "sponsor" feature is not fully implemented yet. You can pick a sponsor from one of three: Kinetic (speed), Arboreal (vibes), and the community favorite: Enemy (tricks). Once you qualify for sponsorship you get some neat gear, but thats it. No new challenges or goals. Largely, I can't wait to see where this game goes and I'm stoked to see what they do to this game. I am doing my very best to be patient hahaha.

From someone who put 120+ hours into the first game, I'm loving this new iteration. To get it out of the way I don't love the shift away from the roguelike elements, the pushing of the "open-world" and the backseating of the Bossruns. In their roadmap for the game it lists "Bossrush mode". Hopefully this will be a return to the traditional format of the game, hopefully including (and revamping) the upgrades as well. What I love: The shift away from DHMB to boarding is phenomenal. Blasting down the slopes (and trails) tweaking grabs and spinning like a maniac feels great and terrifying at times. Many people have complained about the lack of a brake... boards don't have brakes. I normally wouldn't say this, but this is 100% a situation of "git gud". There are definitely methods of slowing down, they just require practice and skill. Devs, please don't listen to these people. The biomes I've seen look great. But I worry Snowboarding is going to struggle in this category, considering there are only so many ways to make a snowy mountain. Definitely needs to have more emphasis in using the different stunts as distinguishing features, in this regard. As for the mountainboarding they're absolutely nailing it. These areas are much more reminiscent of the first game with tight clearly laid tracks with wooden ramps and banked turns. The UI is great. Very well stylized and provide all the function you need. I particularly like the little notifier that tells me I'm falling very quickly so my landing better perfect. Good touch there, it let's me know when I need to lock in. Gripes: I'm writing this on Day 2 of Early Access, so obviously there are some missing features or bugs, but I'll lay out some that have affected my enjoyment of the game. There aren't enough cosmetics. Making currency from doing the open world is fun but right now there isn't enough to really work for. Being a completionist is fun for this game but there really needs to be some sort of UI signifier letting me know if I rode an offpiste or not. Also one telling me if I will unlock a special cosmetic for completing all the objectives in a park. I felt pretty miffed when I didn't get one for completing my second park. I DEMAND RESTITUTION <3 Grinding rails kinda sucks, like... in every way. They never seem long enough or they're placed in such a way that you just clear them in any jump. Sometimes your gravitate to them and sometimes you don't? I really can't figure out how they work. Also the ones on the Offpistes just feel dangerous as hell to use. I will often miss them by a hair and my character's hand or knee taps it causing me to bail. That with some wack landing that I swear I nailed (I might be being a baby about this one lol) means I'm losing way too much health to some (at least perceived BS). Grinding is probably the coolest thing anyone can do (I'm a massive Sonic Adventure 2 fan lol) so this part needs a lot of work. tl;dr This game is very fun, and a great continuation of the franchise. It's definitely still Early Access. So as long as you expect less than a full game, and enjoy going fast and slamming into trees. Buy it.

~2 hours update: I think the fundamental flaw of the current game balance is that the whole acceleration-tricks-brake mechanism is different from Descenders yet the conditions of punishments are seemingly the same. In DN there is no sure way to decelerate, speed management is much harder, acceleration relies heavily on terrain - there is no way to actively accelerate to reasonable speed that tricks are possible, so you'd left with no choice but to keep flying at an extremely high speed all the time, meaning each bail punishes you very hard. When comparing with mountainboarding that the acceleration/speed seems to be more manageable, it's very obvious that too much speed without effective acc/deceleration is breaking the overall game experience. --- I've completed Descenders full achievements and got lots of hours in STEEP too so this is an instant yes for me. I'll come back to edit this review but I don't see any showstopper on the horizon that's gonna take away the positive review from me. Love: Awesome music as always! Difficulty rebalanced, much easier to finish a route now. Controls feel less janky too, it still doesn't feel as smooth as STEEP and I found myself overcompensating for roll/flip tricks a lot but I believe it's just a matter of time to get used to. Hate/Meh: Speed - I'm a die-hard Kinetic speed demon in Descenders but I'm still not used to DN's speed, am I supposed to carve a lot to slow down? Or is this the pace in DN? Customization options - lord I miss the customization in Descenders, what do I have now? And please tell me there will be something for Descenders OGs? Please make the voice pitch freely adjustable too, I don't really care much about the face and hairstyle tbh but the voices feel very odd to me. Map variations - it might be too early to tell but I miss the different terrain in Descenders that feels truly unique and brings different challenges, sometimes strategy. The snow mountains in DN feels too similar and I don't see any differences after unlocking 3 save points. "but it's just a snow mountain" isn't an excuse since we do have different looking mountains in STEEP, even just visually, I'm looking forward to any surprises/updates ahead ;) UI/Bugs: When selecting "replay" after a race, jumping to replay mode and exiting it, please go back to the race summary instead of quitting to main menu.

Really loving what I've played so far, particularly the Race and Slopestyle nodes (reminds me of the SSX series)! Strong start and I can't wait to see where this game goes!
