A Charming Mini-Murder Mystery Ideal for people who just want a short high-quality experience. Not ideal for those who want a big challenge, as it is very approachable in its difficulty and more for cozy or first time point-and-click adventurers. Down/negative The game is short. Very short, even compared to other entries in the genre as well as its sequels. Repeated dialogue lines if a character does not find an object interesting/they are not part of its puzzle. Leading to weird stuff like a character saying “I do not know what that is” when presented with a rifle. Up/positives Essentially everything else. High quality in characters; style, personality and voice acting. Logical puzzles and no punishments for mistakes. Very easy to track progress for 100% achievement. Overall decent sound and setting. So yeah, definitely an up, just do not expend to spend many hours here.
Sweet little game! It was surprisingly short, and was for sure not expecting it to be a port of a flash game. But after coming from Tangle Tower, it was nice seeing that Grimoire's design and mannerisms were immediately nailed on the first game. This is relatively simple by point & click standards; you don't "apply" or "combine" objects, and most of your runtime boils down to clicking everywhere and asking questions. I think it is a very nice game for beginners in that way. I would just like to point out that the game DOES have sound, but the Linux port seems to be buggy and it won't play. But everything works out of the box on Proton Experimental.
I really liked the voice acting and the personality of each character (especially the sassyness in some) expected completion time: ~4.3 hours (considering you know how to unlock each achievement) Favorite minigame was the one where you match the words for sentences that helps with the analysis of the current situation for the mc, although it was pretty confusing on what word to use at times and funny to write useless sentences for the fun of it :D The 100% achievement seemed pretty bugged at first, until i had to go and check for some dialogues i did not find before, and probably 2 other clues, it was pretty frustrating at first until i found out what i needed to find even if it didn't really cap 100% on every single category because of that Had a fun time making theories and looping back from character to character after finishing everything before deciding on the most suspicious one, i was kinda torn at first until i went back to spot one giveaway Also after finding out who the culprit is, you are expected to report back to your main officer and answer everything from start to finish about the clues you have found + sentences that are presented to you as choices, but only 1 thing is correct for each part, i do not recommend heavy grinding this game with no sleep because once you get to this part you will need a video to process what to say for each part
Before I purchase Detective Grimoire, I was a bit worried that the game might be hard to play because it was released a long time ago. However, after trying it, I think it is a good game. The story is interesting and easy to follow. It kept me engaged while solving the mystery. It is a point-and-click game where you investigate a murder in a strange swamp, talk to many suspicious characters, and slowly figure out what really happened. You explore different areas, click on objects to find clues, and talk to people to get information. Some clues come from conversations, and you need to pay attention because not everyone is telling the truth. You also use clues together and show them to characters to get new information, which helps you move forward in the case. The characters are fun and very unique. The dialogue is well-written, and the voice acting makes them feel more alive. The main detective is also funny and a bit goofy, which makes the game more enjoyable. Overall, it is a fun mystery game with a good story and interesting characters, even if the gameplay is quite simple.
