Devour is pure co-op horror chaos. The objectives are simple enough, but once the monster starts chasing the group, every plan immediately falls apart. It's scary, stressful, and often hilarious when teammates panic and run in opposite directions. It's a great time to play with friends.
Devour is a coop survival horror game that can give you a couple of fun nights with friends, but not much more than that. You play as a group of survivors, and in the first map, The Farmhouse, your goal is to complete a satanic ritual to stop Anna from dragging you to hell. This involves finding goats scattered around the house, feeding them, and sacrificing them at the ritual site. Accessing the goats requires unlocking different rooms throughout the farmhouse, which adds some tension early on. Along the way, demons will randomly spawn and can be killed using your flashlight. Anna herself cannot be killed she can only be stunned briefly with the flashlight, and more often than not, she will catch you. When Anna captures a player, they’re left crawling on the floor similar to PUBG until a teammate revives them with a med kit.The game’s strongest elements are its jump scares and the design of the Farmhouse map. Your first encounter with Anna is especially memorable, and the developers did a solid job creating a sinister, atmospheric environment. For a few hours, the tension works, and the experience is genuinely effective. That said, the game relies heavily on RNG, and careful play or skill alone won’t reliably help you avoid Anna. Over time, the jump scares also lose their impact, and the more you play, the less frightening the game becomes. I would’ve rated Devour higher if it weren’t for the second map, The Asylum. Here, Anna is replaced by a different boss and goats are swapped out for rats, but the level design takes a noticeable hit. The map feels uninteresting and overly maze-like, to the point where it becomes frustrating rather than tense. My group didn’t even feel motivated to finish it, as it quickly started to feel like a waste of time. I can’t really say Devour is a great game, but it is very cheap, and you’ll likely get around three to four hours of fun out of it if you play with friends. Think of it as a one-night horror party go in with the right expectations, and you might end up enjoying it.
