Such a relaxing, straightforward game. I have tons of crafting games, but for some reason, Dig Island really resonates with me. It’s easy to understand, easy to get into, and doesn’t feel overwhelming. Maybe I’m just in a good mood, but work is stressful enough, we need games that give us peace of mind, not more stress. Either way, I definitely recommend it!

I have way too many 'Simjank' games in my collection, but this is certainly one of the better ones. This is why I like it: 1. Minimal jank - in fact, very little at all, everything plays smoothly. 2. All the crafting systems are well designed, and interlock well, you are never short of things to do in the game. It seems that a lot of thought went into this game. 3. It has the genius idea of mashing a digging/exploration game with crafting. This is significant, as you are digging for ore *for a purpose*. 4. It is a chill/relaxing game, without being boring (I have killed too many zombies and cannibals, it is nice to have a break). Refreshing to find a game where you are not walking around with a gun or a sword (enough actual violence in the real world!). 5. Trust in the Developers (I believe they also made 'Contractville', which started off pretty rough (apparently). But, by the time I came to it, it had had regular patches, and was very playable for me. Although Dig Island seems good to go on launch, it is good to know that the devs have a reputation for sticking with it and not just shovelling out another cash-grab. 6. [This is a biggie for me] - It works 100% flawlessly in VR (with UEVR). For these sort of games, I want to be *IN* the game world, walking around in a 3D, 360 environment with everything seen at full scale (playing games on a small flat screen just does not cut it for me). If you have a VR headset - this is a must buy, as the game is wonderful in VR (Contractville, also works flawlessly in VR, although this game seems better optimised). Caveat: I have only played just over four hours, so no idea how it develops later in the game. That said, I have certainly justified my buy, even at this stage, and the fact that I have only just scratched the surface after 3 hours bodes well. A surprise hit and a definite recommendation for anyone that is into these sort of games. Huge cherry on the cake, if you have VR.

I'm only 8 hours in solo and my opinion is that for being early access I very much am enjoying the game. It's quite similar to other games with its own unique twist on survival. You've crash landed and need to dig for ores to process into bars to craft and upgrade items and tools all while discovering surprises underground. Things I think need improvement: 1. You can't hold down shift, alt, or ctrl to queue up multiple items for smelting or crafting. 2. The food mechanic feels weird and it's more of a hassle than a fun mechanic. Food needs a rework and eating raw items like bananas should also fill you up more than they do. 3. Fishing sucks. it's more annoying than anything and you need it if you want to get into the food that satisfies 50 hunger instead of the 25 hunger foods. 4. I think stack sizes should be greater than 10. 5. I don't get why the little hostile critters in the bunkers even exist. They seem pointless considering they don't do a lot of damage and are easily killed with your axe. 6. Energy drains way too fast. You can't get more by sleeping or eating certain foods... WHY? 7. Why can we not pin a recipe or 2? You already have to make this to make that to make what you really want so why not make it easier on the player and let us pin the recipes on screen. 8. I love that it has an in depth quest system, but it could really use some polish. Be a bit more specific about what to craft and possibly some instructions on how to use the items you craft (I had to dig through the controls to figure out how to use my watch and I'm just now got the GPR and don't know how to use that yet.) Things I DO like! 1. Progression feels nice. It's not too grindy or too easy (again, I'm solo so it might be different for MP) 2. Digging is smooth. I do like how your dig size gets bigger as you upgrade your tools. 3. I love that you have the option to shut off auto collection of ores while digging and the option to not pickup dirt. 4. It's nice to have the guy to trade with. I often find myself with an excess of certain ores and can trade them in for more useful ores that I currently need. 5. The compass at the top is super handy. Remember when looking at shelter locations, to take note of compass on that map.. it is not your typical NESW... its WNES. I was digging in the complete wrong direction thinking the shelter I needed was south when it was East (OOF!). Overall I do think it's worth the price. I have high hopes for some QoL. Will possibly update later when I've gotten a bit further into the game!
