Disneyland Adventures is a game built on pure wish fulfillment: the fantasy of stepping into Disneyland whenever you want, wandering its pathways at your own pace, meeting iconic characters, and experiencing classic attractions without crowds or queues. Developed by Frontier Developments and Asobo Studio and published by Xbox Game Studios, it recreates Disneyland Park as it existed in the early 2010s, transforming the real-world layout into a bright, playful, interactive digital playground. The moment you step through the gates, it becomes clear that the developers were aiming for something more than a theme park tie-in — the entire park has been translated into a living, navigable space, packed with familiar details, musical cues, and character encounters that evoke the atmosphere of an actual Disney visit. One of the game's most appealing qualities is the sheer level of environmental authenticity. Every major land — from Main Street U.S.A. to Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Adventureland, and Fantasyland — is lovingly reproduced. The architecture, color palettes, signage, and even ambient soundscapes capture the identity of each area. The park isn’t just a backdrop; it’s the heart of the experience. Walking through it feels soothing, nostalgic, and almost therapeutic. Children and adults alike can enjoy stopping to watch fireworks, grabbing virtual snacks, or simply enjoying the vistas without pressure. Disneyland Adventures succeeds in offering a space designed for exploration, where the reward is the environment itself. To give this virtual Disneyland structure, the game leans on a mix of quests, collectibles, and interactive attractions. There are nearly a hundred small missions scattered across the park, usually involving tasks given by Disney characters — retrieving lost items, delivering messages, collecting themed objects, or performing small favors that lead to new interactions. These quests offer direction without forcing a rigid progression, letting players wander naturally while still providing goals to chase. Character interactions are especially charming: over thirty classic Disney characters appear throughout the park, fully animated and ready to greet you with hugs, autographs, photo opportunities, and story snippets. For a younger audience or die-hard Disney fans, these moments carry the emotional core of the game. The reimagined attractions form the game’s most action-oriented component. Eighteen rides have been transformed into themed mini-adventures based on the original Disneyland attractions: you can duel pirates alongside Peter Pan, slide through snowy Matterhorn slopes, explore surreal landscapes inspired by Alice in Wonderland, or zip through futuristic missions borrowed from Tomorrowland. Each of these attractions presents its own mechanics — skiing, flying, rail-shooting, rhythm timing, or simple platforming — giving the game variety and keeping it from becoming a pure walking simulator. While these mini-games aren’t particularly deep, they serve as fun, thematic bursts of activity that complement the slower pace of park exploration. Technically, the remastered version released for PC and Xbox One brings meaningful improvements that help the game stand apart from its motion-controlled Kinect origins. The updated visuals are bright and clean, with 4K textures, sharper models, improved lighting, and smoother animations. Traditional controls with keyboard, mouse, or gamepad make navigation far more intuitive, and the revamped interface streamlines the experience for modern systems. This shift from exclusive motion controls to more flexible input methods allows the game to reach a wider audience and makes it feel less like a relic of its Kinect era. Yet for all its charm, Disneyland Adventures comes with limitations that reflect its original design philosophy. Many side quests boil down to repetitive fetch tasks, particularly during extended play sessions. The attractions, while imaginative, are usually simple and short, sometimes bordering on shallow compared to modern action mini-games. The pacing can feel uneven: long stretches of calm exploration interrupted by bursts of activity that don’t always carry substantial challenge. Players seeking complex gameplay systems, deep progression, or strategy elements may find the content too light to hold attention over many hours. Another natural constraint is the park’s time capsule effect. Because the game recreates Disneyland as it existed around 2011, several modern attractions, lands, and updates — including entire themed expansions introduced in the real park since then — do not appear. For some fans this offers a nostalgic trip to an earlier version of Disneyland, while for others it highlights the absence of more recent experiences they may have wished to revisit virtually. And once most quests and collectibles have been completed, the incentive to continue exploring diminishes, since the park does not evolve meaningfully over time. Even with these drawbacks, Disneyland Adventures stands out as a cozy, affectionate recreation of one of the world’s most iconic destinations. It is best approached not as a traditional video game with escalating stakes, but as a relaxing digital vacation: a place to wander, smile, and enjoy lighthearted Disney magic at your own pace. Families, younger players, and Disney devotees will find plenty to love in its cheerful design, engaging character moments, and lovingly crafted environments. Ultimately, Disneyland Adventures succeeds because it understands the emotional appeal of Disneyland itself — and captures that spirit in a form anyone can visit from home. Rating: 8/10

Experienced on the Meta Quest 3 You can view my 3D in VR gameplay here (TAB 3D): https://youtu.be/YWJHdfq8LFo Yes, you can play Disneyland Adventures in 3D in VR using the Geo11 3D driver (search for it) that is completely free. Geo11 converts almost any game with DX11 into 3D. Then you just need an app to view the 3D content in VR, such as Virtual Desktop Streamer or Bigscreen VR (free). Playing this in 3D in VR is like playing a game at a 3D movie theater. There is a big issue with this game though. The lighting / shadows on some 3D models (close to the camera) do not render correctly in 3D. However, the map itself looks wonderful in 3D. So, overall, the game looks great in 3D in VR, but yeah, the lighting issue needs a specific fix. Hopefully, somebody will fix it in the future. In any event, I enjoyed exploring Disneyland in 3D in VR. The game is complete eye candy and is better looking than the vast majority of VR games released recently, especially on an RTX 5090. If you own the game and have a VR headset with a beefy rig, it's a no brainer to experience. I just wish this game had an official VR port. Since it's an original Kinect game, it would work perfectly in PCVR. 3D in VR Rating 6.5/10. I bought this game! A relaxing trip to Disneyland where you can shove people without getting arrested If you’ve ever wanted to stroll aimlessly through a virtual Disneyland, running errands for a small army of passive-aggressive mascots who never seem to lift a finger themselves, this is your moment. The game offers a delightful opportunity to question your life choices while obediently fetching things for an anthropomorphic duck who can’t be bothered to fetch them himself. It’s a textbook “no-brainer” – not in the sense of being intellectually stimulating, but in the sense that your brain can happily clock off for the day while you collect shiny coins. These, of course, must be spent on designer clothes and utterly pointless merchandise. Occasionally, the game will even force you into a wardrobe purchase before letting you proceed, which I can only assume is part of the mandatory capitalism curriculum. As in real life, people are constantly standing in your way. Unlike real life, however, you can simply nudge them aside without so much as a frown in return. It’s oddly therapeutic. In between shopping therapy sessions, you’ll find a handful of surprisingly charming mini-games in the park attractions. They’re fun, not too hard, and mercifully free of anything resembling real-world consequences. The lovingly recreated Disneyland is a pleasure to wander, though it’s worth remembering this game is from 2017 – the visuals are pleasant, but hardly cutting-edge. All told, even at full price, it’s worth the ticket. Think of it as a holiday to Disneyland where you don’t have to queue for the rides, deal with screaming children, or remortgage your home. Which, frankly, is a bit of magic in itself.

I love this game because there are lots of references to animated Disney movies that hardcore Disney fans will recognize. Picking up the basics of the game play is easy, but mastering every attraction and finding every secret is hard. However, it will all be worth it in the long run. Trust me.
