This game is criminally overlooked by the fans and and doesn't deserve it by a land mile. - Very strong writing. There isn't a bad quest. The 'good' quests are sublime. - Very well optimized for PC. Looks gorgeous with max settings. - Combat is punchy and challenging, even on Normal. The last boss in the Deep Roads? Good luck. - The characters, especially the MC's siblings, are brilliantly written. Yes, even Carver. - It is a Grimdark/Low-Fantasy story, in my opinion. This is a game for adults. - The male MC's voice acting is hilarious. His sarcasm is actually funny and witty. - I am constantly laughing at his relationship with his crew, especially Varric. I remember this game being good. I didn't remember it being this good. In all honesty, this is not Dragon Age 2. It is, ''Dragon Age Origins: Kirkwall.'' Clearly some writer had a story to tell and the studio supported his decisions, and I'm glad they did, because despite the games minor shortfalls, (a subtly bland setting), this product really, really stands out. I wish Bioware had continued making games with this engine, in this way. I'm perfectly sure if they released another secluded one-off story like this one, it would be an international hit all over again.

A Flawed Masterpiece & The Peak of the Trilogy Now that I have finished the main campaign, I can confidently say that this is BioWare at its peak. For me, Dragon Age II is the masterpiece of the trilogy. The story leans heavily on the politics of Kirkwall and the Free Marches, creating a narrative that feels personal and grounded. While the development was clearly rushed, the "meat" of the game, the story and gameplay is so good that it almost made me finish the whole thing in one sitting. The writing is absolutely beautiful. The companions are not just well-made; they actually feel deeply personal. Their banter is dynamic, they react to the choices you have made, and the closure each character gets better than what we got in Origins or Inquisition. The NPCs are great, and the world-building is superb; you can really feel how your actions affect the state of the world over the years. The combat is freaking satisfying. Aside from Origins and Inquisition, this game has the best combat loop in the franchise; it blows me away every time. While I have mixed feelings about the simplified equipment system (you can't change companion armor, only weapons/accessories), it makes party management much smoother, letting you focus on the action. My only major complaint, and I am not exaggerating here; is the repetition. The locations are literally the same. Every dungeon, map, encounter, and even the enemies are reused constantly. It is heartbreaking because you can see the potential that wasn't fully tested due to time constraints. However, do not let that stop you. If you are planning to skip this game, don't. It is a crucial setup for Inquisition, and you would be missing out on a surprisingly funny protagonist and a story that truly peaks. If this game had the visual variety of Inquisition to match its writing and combat, it would have been perfect.

Dragon Age II is basically a 10-year reality TV show about one very lucky/unlucky refugee named Hawke, who accidentally becomes the most important person in the city of Kirkwall. It’s less of a save-the-world epic and more of a soap opera filled with mages, templars, and companions who are all aggressively charismatic. Seriously, the party banter alone is worth the price of admission. Isabela and Fenris will ruin your life and you will thank them for it.
