This game is fantastic. It is a homage to early 2000s car culture with excellent references to Need for Speed and Initial D. You have stages and races. One stage consists of three races, each with different maps and obstacles. At the end of each race you get to choose your "cards" for the next race. These cards are upgrades to your car, consumables and abilities you may use later. During a race you have a timer and a minimum amount of points to reach in order to win. Pure adrenaline. Near misses and drift combos hit like crack. To the developers: I'm begging you to add a "free roam" or Practice mode. That's the only thing missing. Oh, and more eurobeat tracks. Other than that, you've done a wonderful job.

Steam deck: Works great out of the box and a consistent 60fps during races. Some dips to ~30-45fps here and there in the menu's. The game is surprisingly fun. The driving and drifting is very satisfying in the game. Not much to say, if you like arcade racers, definitely pick this game up. If this is your first time into racing games, this is a great entry point.

This game is 0% nonsense and 100% game. Boot it up, play a brief tutorial (if you want) and start drifting cars at irresponsible speeds. Driving Rogue is a fine-tuned machine of reactions, precision, and decision-making that comes together so shockingly well I'm left wondering why I'd never gone looking for a driving roguelike before. The goal of the game is to drive as cleanly and stylishly as possible through procedurally-generated levels peppered with blissfully ignorant commuters. And that sounds simple, until you're going 120 mph into a hard right turn with three vehicles blocking up various lanes at once. The game is not complicated, but it is challenging and incredibly well-designed. When I first started playing I thought the roads were too small and the drifting made my vehicle too big. Then I realized the car only kicks out its rear end dramatically while I'm holding the throttle through a drift; this knowledge unlocked a surprisingly robust system for sneaking as close to walls and traffic as possible without making contact. Add strategic braking to this formula, and you will begin to realize that yes, while RNG can screw you, almost any situation can be neatly dealt with if you get the execution right. Between levels you get a breather and a chance to purchase upgrades which enable some neat builds. There's about as much variety as you can squeeze out of a score-based driving game, with the ability to emphasize different scoring actions and tune your vehicle to handle the challenges ahead. It's not rocket science, but it's fun to gamble for good mods and put together a powerful racing machine by the end of the run. A single run seldom lasts longer than half an hour, making this a decidedly bite-sized game, but I found myself coming back for several more rounds each time. Dancing through traffic is way more fun than I ever expected, and generates the kind of raw skill-based satisfaction a lot of modern games sorely lack. You will easily know if you're going to like this game or not before your refund period is up. So really, what do you have to lose?
