A profoundly multidimensional puzzle roguelite that takes the gameplay of Tetris and adds a ton of new considerations like terrain type, building alignment, a Fire Emblem-esque weapon triangle, and short term/long term resource prioritization. Even beyond the complexity of the base gameplay, there are significant playstyle differences between the three factions that add a lot of variety between runs. The Duchy plays like a more traditional Tetris game, the Republic is a Tetris citybuilder, and the Order is all about maximizing terrain bonuses for your central building, providing progression outside your deck through the expedition. All three factions are a lot of fun, and ask you to prioritize different aspects of the gameplay. I find the game fairly difficult due to the number of things you have to consider in any given round, but unlike most Tetris games you have practically unlimited time to make your decisions on normal difficulty, making it a lot less overwhelming than it could be otherwise. The metaprogression does a good job in keeping the game from getting overwhelming too quickly, while providing incentives and increased difficulty for longtime players. Overall, Drop Duchy is one of the most interesting and unique roguelites I've played, and I'd recommend it to anyone remotely interested in puzzle games or roguelites. Nitpick/recommendation: I'd advocate for a future banishment/toggle system for the upgrades. Your deck dilutes when you unlock new items, making the game harder even without changing the difficulty, and it can become overwhelming if players haven't developed their understanding of the base mechanics fully before unlocking additional ones.

This game is amazing and gets an easy recommendation from me. Never in my wildest fantasies I would imagine a blend between rogue-like, tetris, kingdom building and rock-paper-scissors battles. The game really entices you to play to the best capabilities of your deck of buildings and select regions that fit them in order to mitigate RNG problems - and always remember, that at its core, this game is a battler, so make sure you are well stacked when it comes to throwing down with the enemy - because in this game, clearing a line does not make the whole set of blocks go down, but instead counts as an "explored" region and gives you the full amount of resources that the line has (gold, wood, stone, wheat, etc.) So, the GOOD: 1. Exciting and innovative gameplay - this game mashes an impossible genre combination to create a fun game loop and entice you to play more, unlock, and experiment with different loadouts of buildings. 2. Use your brain! - this is a great logic game with an RNG twist. This is not real tetris, so making weird line combinations or building a spire/weird shape on one side of the board in no way, shape, or form will hinder your progress. Clearing every line is nice, but far from mandatory. This is both tetris and non-tetris: use the game as tetris when you need to (always fun to clear a 4-row exploration), or play it like it presents its tiles to you. 3. Tons of unlockables - I cleared the Duchy without even unlocking one part of the unlocks tree because I really wanted to delve in it the way I wanted, and not just go unlock by unlock. It is massive and can really help your gameplay, improve it with new gameplay mechanics, which is always good fun. And about that... 4. You have multiple kingdoms to play with, with greatly differing mechanics to keep the game fun. Some kingdoms like balance and upgrade buildings with a combo of resources. others like gold, and so on. This greatly adds to the replayability. 5. Achievements, unlockables and quests happen naturally as you play which for me makes it even more fun. The Devs basic idea is - just have fun, most of it will happen as you go. The BAD: 1. RNG can never be understated. You can be having a great run and a few bad decisions plus RNG can ruin a map and make you lose a lot of "Defense", ergo HP. Get it down to 0 and you suffer defeat. 2. Weirdly enough, I had a bit of a frame drop when I act too fast and the game needs to recalculate which tiles get improved, resources are collected, and troops go to their respective camps. All in all, I can only recommend this game. It is a great time sink and allows for great replayability, along with smart brains coming up with crazy combos to beat any boss. The progression is organic, the unlocks and achievements come naturally, and the quests are usually the type of "don't worry about me, just play the game and have fun". So what is not to like for something that costs 13 EUR and you can double or triple your playtime versus its cost? For me, 1 EUR = 2 Hours/3 Hours means a game is well worth it. I know, I have high standards...

If you enjoy both XCOM and Tetris, buy this, trust me. Drop Duchy is a great game that turns Tetris into a strategy rogue-like. I put 10 hours into the demo and still can't get enough of it. This is exactly the type of game for people who love strategy, but don't want to min-max every scenario. The RNG means that sometimes you can play optimally, and other times you have to scramble with the god-awful pieces you've been given. You can't rely on the same plan every round and sometimes you just get unlucky - that's part of the charm. The game is really easy to get into, yet the skill-ceiling is surprisingly high. As you progress, more and more possibilities open up and you can really go wild with synergies and different builds. The better you get at building decks with great synergies, the better you'll be able to handle those unfavorable RNG scenarios. Overall, it's a great little game. It really does scratch that XCOM itch for me in a weird Tetris way. There's a lot more depth than you'd expect at first glance. However, once you get decent at the strategy part, there isn't a whole lot of new challenge in the late-game, so that's where it'll probably get stale for most people (~15-20 hours in). Easy recommendation if you think $15 is worth about 10-20 hours of really fun gameplay.

I want to rush a review, because that's how you make beautiful, replayable, and original games that hook the player from the opening screen and his first run! points of interest (their description fully explain what do you expect): + beautiful visuals and music + functional UI + lots of meta-progression + beloved tetrus puzzles + trully strategic choices (not just +1 +2 cards) + replayability and hook-ability out of this game world!!! Be blessed, design team! trully, how do you manage this achievement!?

I played Drop Duchy extensively during the demo and immediately bought the game when it fully came out. Roguelite, puzzle, city-builder Tetris is a very unique game genre, but it does an amazing job of pulling it off. Building up your card selection and board is satisfying, and each round feels different as you try to maximize your adjacency bonuses while balancing it with trying to make it tightly packed and get the most resources every round. If that wasn't enough, there is even a unique combat system in this game where you have to try to place your own military buildings (of 3 classes, each of which counter another like in rock-paper-scissors) and get bonuses for fulfilling their requirements while also being forced to place enemy military buildings to try to minimize the bonus troops they get. It's a really fun puzzle, and an extensive progress tree means you're always unlocking new mechanics and tile types for your future run. If you like roguelike games, I would highly recommend it.
