July 2025
DSX is a controller utility available on Steam that enables users to get the most out of their PlayStation DualSense, DualSense Edge, and DualShock 4 controllers on PC. While Steam has built-in support for PlayStation controllers, DSX significantly expands functionality by offering access to features like adaptive triggers, advanced haptic feedback, customizable LED lighting, and controller emulation. For gamers who want more than just basic input recognition, DSX serves as a dedicated bridge between modern PlayStation hardware and the PC ecosystem. The user interface is clean and polished, allowing for easy navigation through various customization options. Users can create and save multiple profiles, tweak the trigger resistance to suit different genres, adjust RGB light effects, and view real-time input feedback. DSX supports both USB and Bluetooth connections, though full functionality—including advanced haptics and consistent vibration feedback—is more reliable over a wired connection. It also provides emulation modes for Xbox 360 and DualShock 4, which is helpful for compatibility with older or less flexible games. A notable addition is the optional DLC for Virtual DualSense Emulation, which adds deeper integration with games that natively support the DualSense controller. However, the experience can be hit or miss. While the wired mode delivers solid results, Bluetooth connectivity often leads to reduced functionality or inconsistent performance. Some users have reported that haptics either don’t function or are significantly delayed when using the controller wirelessly, limiting the appeal of this otherwise promising feature. Stability is one of the biggest concerns users have voiced. There have been reports of the software freezing, crashing, or behaving sluggishly, especially when adjusting settings or switching between tabs. In more extreme cases, DSX has been linked to system instability, including rare instances of blue screen errors on Windows 11 systems. Some users have found workarounds, such as resetting configuration files or verifying the app through Steam, but these fixes can be inconvenient for those expecting plug-and-play performance. Another limitation is the requirement for Steam to be running for DSX to function properly. While this makes sense for a Steam-integrated app, it can be frustrating for users looking to minimize background applications. Additionally, compatibility with some PC games remains uneven. In certain titles, controller inputs become unreliable or specific features like adaptive triggers fail to activate, regardless of how DSX is configured. These issues highlight a broader concern with how DSX interacts with both the operating system and game engines that aren’t fully optimized for DualSense support. Despite its flaws, DSX remains a powerful tool for players who want full control over their PlayStation controller experience on PC. It’s especially valuable for tech-savvy users willing to tweak settings, manage profiles, and work around occasional bugs. For casual users or those seeking a trouble-free setup, the occasional performance hiccups and missing Bluetooth support may be dealbreakers. But for those willing to invest the time, DSX offers a depth of customization and control that few other controller tools can match. Rating: 8/10

Was using DS4 Windows with my DualSense controller till it started messing up, thought i would try this and it works fine in all my games, pretty happy with it. Have not had any problems like i did with DS4 Windows. Worth checking out if you have a DualSense controller.

Works amazingly. Allows me to emulate my DualSense controller for X360, DualShock, and wired DualSense. Now, I know I said "DualSense" twice. What's the difference? Some games - like Cyberpunk 2077 - do not support haptic feedback and adaptive triggers if you use it natively on a wireless DualSense controller. However, using DSX, I was able to emulate a "wired" DualSense controller, allowing me to feel all of the custom triggers CD Project Red added in for Cyberpunk, while kicking back in my chair with a wireless controller. And the software is cheap. tl;dr, great, cheap piece of software.

Right now there are a LOT of things wrong with this app. 1. Won’t work with games outside of steam. (Pirated, other launchers etc) 2. Haptic Feedback doesn’t work with a Surround Sound audio setup. 3. Can’t change profile or gamepad emulation type without opening the app window (On DS4W you just scroll sideways on the touchpad so it should be the same here) I think that the gamepad emulation type should be changable per profile. So for example profile 1 emulates a DS4 and profile 2 emulates an Xbox. I don’t see why we have to change the profile and also change the emulation gamepad seperately. This app also is really amazing. It allows for seamless HF and wireless AT, it allows using the mic mute button to mute your mic. It is just amazing but the problems above still need to be fixed as they’re kind of a dealbreaker to me. But seeing as this app is constantly being updated, i reccomend buying it.
