I acquired this game via my homebrewed Vita thinking it was just trash shovelware but boy was I wrong. Duck Souls is a fantastic platformer with infinite replayability, cool hats, and funny messages. Needless to say I just had to buy the game because - I had fun - I respect the time the dev put into creating it - I wanted to support them Great game. Thank you for providing me a short, fun, and rewarding platformer. I look forward to purchasing your other two platformers here on Steam. Cheers.

Duck Souls is a compact but energetic precision platformer that blends cute pixel art with demanding, reflex-driven gameplay. You play as a determined little duck on a mission to recover scattered eggs, a simple premise that serves mainly as a backdrop for a gauntlet of tightly designed stages. The game’s world is bright and playful, but the levels themselves are filled with lethal hazards—spikes, sawblades, rockets, fire, and everything in between. What immediately stands out is how brisk and responsive the controls feel. Movement is quick, jumps activate cleanly, and the dash—usable in multiple directions—is the game’s defining mechanic. This responsiveness is crucial because Duck Souls aims for a rhythm of quick deaths and immediate retries, pushing players to master each screen through repetition and sharp precision. Across its 100 levels, the game gradually ramps up its demands, layering new obstacles and shifting level layouts to test your timing and adaptability. While the mechanical toolkit remains deliberately lean—jump, wall jump, and dash—the level design extracts impressive versatility from these simple tools. Some stages require threading through tight spike corridors, others challenge you to dash between moving hazards, and later sections blend everything into sequences that require both fast reflexes and pattern recognition. Instant respawns and brief levels ensure that even when difficulty spikes, frustration is offset by the constant feeling of forward momentum. Clearing a tough stage often brings that classic platformer rush—the sense that you earned the victory through practice and persistence. The game’s tone offsets its harsher difficulty with charm. The duck protagonist is expressive despite the simple pixel style, and cosmetic hats offer a lighthearted reward for progress. The music complements the pace well, keeping energy high without becoming intrusive. The overall presentation strikes a pleasant balance: visually soft enough to feel inviting, mechanically sharp enough to challenge even experienced players. This combination makes Duck Souls approachable for newcomers to the genre while still offering enough bite for veteran precision-platformer fans. However, the game’s scope and ambition are modest, and that comes with natural limitations. While the level variety is solid, the core mechanics do not evolve much over time. Once you’ve internalized the dash and jump rhythm, the game becomes more about increasingly complex obstacle arrangements rather than new ideas. As a result, players who expect major mechanical twists or expansive depth similar to genre leaders may find the experience relatively simple. The campaign is also on the shorter side—most players can clear the game in just a few hours, depending on skill. There is a harder mode for those who want more challenge, but beyond this the replay value hinges mostly on personal enjoyment of the platforming itself rather than additional systems or long-term progression. Even with these constraints, Duck Souls excels at what it sets out to do: offer fast, polished, and entertaining precision platforming in a concise package. Its strengths lie in its tight controls, clean design, and the satisfying loop of trial, error, and triumph. It doesn’t try to redefine the genre, but it doesn’t need to—its focus on clarity and execution makes it an enjoyable experience for anyone who appreciates small-scale but well-crafted platformers. Whether you’re chasing the thrill of conquering tough stages or just looking for a charming challenge to fill an afternoon, Duck Souls delivers a lively and rewarding journey from start to finish. This game is amazing! The controls are snappy and every level feels unique, with a new mechanic or obstacle introduced every ten levels or so. Also, there are hilarious references to things such as Kung Fu Panda, Celeste, and Star Wars to name a few. The one thing I would have liked is maybe one or two extra frames of coyote time, but the forgiving checkpoints in casual mode well make up for it. Really excited to see what else Mateus makes for us.
