I played this for 72 minutes and I already recommend this over arkanoid. However, it comes with a caveat, the controls for a controller suck. So using a mouse or pen (as some other reviewers) is a must. Overall I really like this game and its a reminder of older days that are long gone. Worth the price of a cheap bad coffee. At least you can experience the hardship multiple times without wasted money on coffee. This is as classic as it can get. Also this doesn't suffer from the same issue I had with arkanoid where the levels get exponentially harder by the second you take out a brick.
Pros: -Excellent Arkanoid-like gameplay (even surpasses it by a loooot) with many unique mechanics and power-ups -Great soundtrack -Vast variety of levels -Good level design -Local and online leaderboards -Interesting scoring system. The faster the ball hits a block, the more points you get. -Very low system requirements. This game can run on pretty much anything. -Nice, colorful graphics -Perfectly tight controls -Reasonable price -Achievements -Steam Workshop -Supports cloud saves -Has a level editor -Very low install size Cons: -DLC is a bit expensive -No ultra widescreen support -No trading cards Other: -Game Genre: Arcade -Aspects: Brick Breaker, Level Editor -Difficulty: Average -System Requirements: Very low -Game Is Family-Friendly: Yes -Steam Deck/Linux Compatibility: Runs. Never had any issue. -Overall Recommendation: Overwhelmingly Recommended -TLDR: Greatest Arkanoid/Breakout clone ever made. In fact, it surpasses them thanks to many unique gameplay mechanics and powerups. Combine that with great music, lots of levels and a level editor and you have what is perhaps the best brick breaker game ever made! The cherry on top is that this game will run on pretty much any computer you throw at it.
I got a metal spinner controller for block breaking games and hooooooooo man I get sucked into this one. Nostalgia in all the best ways, especially the .mod tracker tunes; you can even add your own if you're into that. I am. Love this game. Just don't buy the season pass, it ain't comin.
This one is called DX-Ball 2 but whatever the name, I love brick breaker games. This one is pretty good, even if the developers have seemingly lost interest in releasing the additional DLC. I would buy this on a sale - not because it's not worth it, but because I don't like to support skeezy dev practices.
