Thank you for not telling me where to go at every moment in the game. Thank you for for reminding that sometimes the radio can feel like it only plays the same three songs over and over again. Thank you for reminding me that sometimes tips is what keeps a driver going. Thanks for showing small moments of care and friendship in the cold dark corporate run world. Thank you for reminding me that we used to have to look at a map and track where we were ourselves with landmarks like bridges, signs and shops. Some people may complain about these decisions and call it unfinished, I call it "good game design".

I've been jokingly calling Easy Delivery Co "The Pathologic of Dinkums". Or maybe it's Snowrunner meets Animal Crossing? Eurotruck 64: Vorkuta Edition? Silent Hill DoorDash? In any case, it carries a lot of clear inspirations from cozy friend-making community type games and post-dad work simulators, but dares to ask what those games would look like if, instead of being the mayor of an island community, you do Instacart in rural Siberia. So, sticking with the Animal Crossing comparison, imagine that Tom Nook is replaced with a gig-economy delivery app, managed automatically by a now-absent megacorporation. You are the new (and apparently only) delivery driver, replacing someone that each resident references and seems to miss. Early in the game you'll meet the old driver's closest friend, a traveling hermit who serves to give you the game's progression goals. From there you do the on-its-surface job of delivering little items from one location to another. It's a job that gives you ample time along with your thoughts, and ask yourself questions like, "Is it weird that I'm the only vehicle on these roads?" It's tedious, meditative, just a bit creepy, and the little silly-time touches (like the Banjo-Kazooie jibber-speak and cutesy bobbing animations) only serve to make the vibes even creepier. But, like, in a good way. Let me put it this way: if you're the kind of person that has romantic ideas about grey skies during snow storms, or the loneliness of long drives, then this game will put you in SUCH a great mood. And, if you like it when games do the meta "this is a video game" thing in unconventional ways (or even if you're kind of sick of games being too meta), then I won't spoil anything, but Easy Delivery Co found one of the absolute best ways to engage with that trope. The game also does this thing that I found frustrating at first but ultimately very rewarding - you don't get any navigation assistance, not even a compass, and objective markers only appear when you're close to the drop-off point. Your map doesn't change orientations, and you have to actually read road signs & use environmental clues to orient yourself. Finding the best way around becomes your primary challenge, with the secondary being to keep your cargo in the open truck bed as you go. Honestly, it's not that hard to do. You can create your own challenge by trying to take shortcuts, some more obvious than others, but all you're really doing is adding excitement to a game designed around bleak tedium. I imagine speedrunners will be impressed with the game's freedom, but this is, ironically, a game where you get the most out of it by taking things slow. Oh, and there's stamina & fuel managing mechanics. Stamina in particular is an interesting challenge to juggle, because the most cost-effective solutions require you to cook. And yeah, crafting systems can be kind of a drag on their own, but I'd argue that (a) what's a cozy AniCross-like without crafting & fishing, and (b) the main danger of this game is being outside of your vehicle unprepared, so just finding & using safe places to cook & fish is itself a challenge. My sole complaint with this game is, there's just not nearly enough of it - a weird thing to say about a game about driving over long distances and not much else. The game is screaming for DLC that adds more areas, maybe even mod support. I suppose the ultimate ending of the game counts as an "endless mode", but while the game is engaging when you are working towards story goals, it loses a lot of that shine when you're just delivering a 500th stack of pizzas from Lopton to Smalton - oh wait, this stack's going to Clifton this time! Wheeeeee... All in all, I see myself reinstalling this game periodically and playing it from start to finish all over again. An excellent game, one of the year's best in my opinion. HUGE recommend!

Just a cozy delivery game, definitely for sure nothing weird going on :) This is a short (~7 hour) experience, with very nice chill times dealing with janky driving physics, and good soundtrack and atmosphere. When I finished this game it really hit home that indie games can just so very easily surpass in meaningfulness whatever AAA games are doing. No need for huge time sinkers, no crunch culture, no next-gen realistic graphics, just good short reasonable games made by small teams. And you won't have to pay 80 dollars for it. Big fan.
