So, this game is very fun for the brief set of campaign missions that it has and is definitely worth buying on sale, say for half off. I had a blast with it and literally played like 9 hours in a row when I first booted it up. The problem with it comes when you are done with the campaign missions. I went to play a sandbox mission with a lofty financial goal, and there I found the game's fatal imbalance: over longer periods of time, your staff will continue to ask for more and more and more money the longer they've been there, to the point that you won't be able to afford them because customers will only pay so much for their coffees to cover the cost of salaries. So all these employees that you've spent money training are suddenly unaffordable, which really sucks. It's not really realistic to expect that someone doing the same job with the same amount of training would continue to demand hundreds of dollars more per day as time goes on or else be unhappy with their salary, but that's the way it's implemented. So you'd have to fire them and start with untrained newbies to stay afloat, which really blows. If they'd made their employees less greedy about salaries as time went on (holding their training level constant, that is), the game's balance would be perfect. But in sandbox games that becomes a problem. Still, I had a great time with it for the time that I did.

Espresso Tycoon delivers exactly what you’d expect from a coffee shop management game but this is not a sim game that requires intense management. It can be played at a steady pace without too much concentration, its a fairly relaxing game. Among business and simulation games, it ranks in the mid upper tier, offering a fairly solid experience. The game provides a decent level of depth, incorporating key business elements like hiring and training staff, managing stock and supplies, and decorating your café within a budget to enhance its style. One nice feature is the ability to design your own coffee recipes, though these custom drinks are largely influenced by customer demands based on the map you’re playing and the cup sizes and measurements are a bit odd, don't expect to create ultra realistic lattes you'll be making the odd real beverage but the game dictates they are wacky and usually weird like butter milk chocolate espresso with cherries lol. One minor game negative is the lack of an expansion option for your shop—there's no way to grow beyond your initial space but you can open a toilet lol. Additionally, there are no rival businesses, meaning the main challenge comes from managing your bank balance and completing objectives to progress to the next level. In terms of difficulty, the early campaign missions are quite easy, with a tutorial guiding you through the basics. As you advance, the challenge steadily increases, unlocking new mechanics and features along the way. While it doesn’t revolutionize the sim/management genre, there’s enough content here to provide around 20-30 hours of gameplay maybe more if you like the sandbox mode. The developers are highly active, frequently releasing updates and news. As of now, this is arguably the best coffee shop management game available on Steam. Its a shame it does not have steam workshop integration so all content is developer original and paid for. I played the demo a few times then bought Espresso Tycoon on sale. Visually, the game looks good and runs smoothly, with no noticeable technical issues, lag, or stuttering. The audio could use some improvement—the soundtrack is quite limited, and as others have noted, AI-generated voices and sound clips are obviously used, I don't mind but others don't like this hence the mixed reviews recently. Overall, if you enjoy management sims and the idea of running a virtual café, Espresso Tycoon is worth checking out! £15 or less is probably a fair price so grab it whilst its on sale.

This is my kind of game, relaxing, engaging and it allows me to vicariously live out my dream of owning multiple coffee shops around the world. Mechanisms are pretty decent for what it is. I like the management and training tools for the employees. I just wish there was a way to attack the thief by clicking on them or something. It's so frustrating to see my security guard fail me time after time even with training. But I give this game a solid 7/10. Story line is straightforward, they introduce major components with each mission (not a fan of that). But still good for a slightly more hands on sandbox type of game.

Honestly not a bad game. Can be a little stressful in story mode lol. It's fun though. Has replay value. I like how I can make my own drinks, name them, and put personal touches on things. I would very much recommend this to anyone.

It is buggy. If they fix the issues it can be long term more fun. I like that I have missions and once completed I move to the next cafe and start over. New requirements and a higher difficulty level each time. It starts out simple and gets more and more complex. Keeping my attentions and wanting to play. They put in a lot more details than I expected, so many multi tasks. Its impressive. With new tasks and challenges that really amp up the difficulty. I overall enjoy it. But, there are some issues. I especially dislike the POV. It is clunky, gets stuck and sometimes makes things frustrating and unnecessarily hard. I also wish the just the birds could be turned off. Without losing other sounds. I enjoy the coffee sounds. But the birds start to get to me after about 15 minutes of play. Baristas get stuck on customers. They also do not start their shifts until an hour after scheduled. chairs can be difficult to place and some chairs and tables get stuck and immovable until I reload the game. Measurements are odd to understand at first. And even now I only kinda get it. There is no serving sizes but units and grams. I also do not understand why on some levels I can order any quality of item and am told to use better ingredients. But, then on later levels only lower quality ingredients seem to work.
