To note, this is a collection game of the Evoland 1 & 2, so is strictly better than buying them individually. I will split this review into two parts, one for each game. Evoland 1: Super short game, only took 3 hours, but has one of the coolest concepts I have seen in a game where you continuously progress through the different eras of gaming. This game main revolves around either JRPG or top down Legend of Zelda game play, with occasionally some other game types thrown in. This definitely has a lot of promise, but the game play i found clunky. Additionally the story is boring and filled with lots of bad stereotypes. One thing I really wish was that there was actually more often switching between the two main styles instead of areas being pretty much compartmentalized into the different types of game play. Evoland 2: This is actually a complete and polished game taking me 30 hours to 100% (collectibles wise). The game is reduced to be legend of Zelda game play for 50% of the time, 30% 2D platformer, with the rest being occasional story driven game play style changes. These span, bullet hells, fighting games, beat-em-ups, bejeweled, JRPGs, among others. The evolving through the ages of gaming has been entirely replaced in this game and is replaced with each era of gaming representing a different time in the time line. That is right, this is a time traveling game. The story is actually quite good in this game and has quite a bit of depth if you are one to try and figure out the lore. All and all I would recommend this game for people to play if you are a fan of more exploration and puzzle based games. Final thoughts: I would say that I much more enjoyed my time playing Evoland 2 than 1, but that Evoland 1 has the better potential game concept.

All I’m saying is it’s worth the £4 ~$5 on sale but don’t watch videos of it it ruins it a bit fun game tho not to mention that it comes with 1 and 2 and 1 is a short story packed game but 2 has more than 20 hours of gameplay

Get it. Two games (1 & 2) for the low price of 22$ (CAD) or 4.40 on sale. I LOVED the first one as it got me from classic 8-bit (or lower) to Diablo era on PC, all on a single journey. Second one is good too, but it includes bullet-hell type of gaming that I'll need to work on if I want to 100% (both 2 and Legendary).

Evoland Legendary Edition is a nostalgic and clever tribute to the history of video games. From pixelated black-and-white beginnings to full 3D, it constantly evolves in style and gameplay. Evoland 1 is short but charming, while Evoland 2 offers a deeper, more polished experience with tons of genre shifts and fun references. A must-play for retro fans and anyone who loves creative, evolving game design.

Evoland has been sitting in my wishlist for the past 10 years and now I finally decided to play it. EVOLAND 1: Evoland 1 is a parody and doesn't take itself seriously. Nostalgia bait is shoved in your face one after another, in the style of: "hey remember random encounters? Those sucked lol. Anyway the world map will be full of them now.". The game play is garbage for the most part and the most atrocious segment is the Action RPG, which is more reminiscent of a zero budget mobile game. The specific game most referenced is FF7, which I love of course, but it doesn't save the game. 100% in 5 hours, no guides needed. They handled collection well in my opinion. My favorite part was a town rendered in the style of FF7, that was cool. EVOLAND 2: Evoland 2 is a completely different story, they had a BUDGET for this game. They hired an artist and the music is good, the gameplay is overall much better. They copied many aspects over from Chrono Trigger, which fits the theme perfectly. Chrono Trigger is also somewhere at the very top of games on my list, so I'm probably biased. Lots of variety in gameplay, mostly JRPG but we have bomberman, top down shmup, sidescrolling shmup, MTG, platformer, fucking connect three, many more and a bunch of puzzles for some reason (Layton I guess). Basically a bunch of different games a millennial has probably played, with a brief glance at old games like Snake, Pong and Pac-Man. Hard to say which part was my favorite, perhaps either The Anomaly or Antiquity. I even got invested in the story and really hoped to see more of the Magi, seeing that they are basically the enlightened ones of Zeal Kingdom. 100% in 23 hours, I really took my time with this one, didn't want it to end. Collection is a lot of work, but you can find everything without a guide. I spent a long time just wandering around in the present, where even the characters look like they're straight out of Chrono Trigger.
