Excellent game all around Incredibly satisfying combat Fun puzzles Great music beautiful retro aesthetic EDIT: Game takes an extremely parry-focused turn from floor 5 onwards, and is honestly just not fun after that point. Every fight is just an onslaught of constant enemy attacks that seemingly never stop, along with fights where attacks aren't telegraphed clearly in any way. NG+ has soured my opinion on this game pretty dramatically. Strategizing and planning your gauntlet/specialties around the enemies on your current floor was one of the interesting parts of the game, NG+ throws that entire facet of the game out the window, as enemies from future floors can now appear in enemy combinations from lower floors. You can no longer plan your loadout around the current floor, and the game just decides to throw enemy combinations at you that don't make any sense, and are just not fun to fight. There's a reason why everyone says to stack the poise upgrade on NG+: No one wants to actually engage with the combat at this point, and would rather face tank everything because it's so obscenely unfun and a slog to fight at this point in the game.
I got this game with a bundle and started it with zero expectations. 15 hours later and it became one of the best games I played on my steam deck. If you like punch out, exploring dungeons and retro graphics, this game is a must. The fighting offers a lot of alternatives, keeping it engaging almost throughout the whole game. It can be repetitive near the end, as by that point you would be used to most of the enemies patterns. Overall, a surprising purchase, full of care for the world, characters, and combat. Would recommend to anyone that is curious and wants something different.
6/10 I love blobber turn based movement games and when I saw this I thought it looked cool and unique to make it like a brawler too mixed with blobber movement. The game doesn't really do anything wrong, IT is just not too deep for me. The combos can look cool and stuff but after paying for an hour I got the gist I had already seen the whole game because the progression seems very tame. You unlock some skills, some potions etc and that's about it from what I can see. Skill progression is just like a special move you can use in combat that costs points to cast so it sort of breaks away from the combat to cast a final fantasy sort of limit break. The prese4ntation was cool although I did find the surroundings a bit samey but it feel polished and like an old gameboy advanced game in style and presentation just with better gfx. The music is absolutely awesome though. it's a shame I didn't like it a bit more and felt it was a bit shallow because i might have enjoyed it more. also the map design wasn't great. just mazes after mazes. I'm not into that sort of map design. Had the game had more of a progression system where you unlock normal moves you can combo etc rather than just super moves or maybe an rpg system with much better map design I would have loved this game I think. As it stands, I'm probably dropping it but putting it as a positive because I think other people might enjoy it more than me.
Short game with fun characters and a decent story. Combat is very fast-paced and engaging, though some of the weapons/armors are a tad lackluster. Movement is kinda strange but you definitely get used to it. You can definitely tell the dev really enjoyed making this game lol. Overall, if you like action games with good, simple combat as well as some light puzzling I'd highly recommend.
It went as is: "Hey friends: there's this sick looking game where you punch stuff to without end, and it's on discount! Should I buy it?" "Absolutely yes dude!" And then a 4 hour marathon of GLORIOUS spire climbing-punch filled-whallop spree, and we *loved every second* What a GEM!! Get yourself this game ASAP!! (You might want to tone down the motion bobbing settings: the motion sickness is harder than the enemies XP)
