Fox Hime Zero is a story about an ordinary guy and a fox spirit. I thought the story was beautiful, and enjoyed it despite its short length. If you're looking for a cute slice-of-life story that you can read in one afternoon, feel free to give this a try. Just be aware that this VN lacks many quality-of-life features that modern VNs have. (Btw, I don't recommend the other version, Fox Hime, at all, as it's much worse.)

Hey guys, Kiyo here, and this is my 47th review XD! Fox Hime Zero is a heartwarming visual novel that tells the story of Yan, a natural history student who encounters a mysterious fox girl named Mori at a remote mountain observation cabin. What starts as a simple encounter unfolds into a beautifully woven tale about connection, mystery, and the Divine Fox's legacy. I really enjoy how the story is structured — the way other characters are connected to the Divine Fox creates this satisfying narrative thread that keeps pulling you forward. One event leads naturally to another, and the day-by-day interactions between Mori and the main character feel genuine and charming. It's the kind of slice-of-life pacing that VN fans will appreciate. Rating Breakdown: Gameplay ⭐⭐⭐ Standard visual novel mechanics — you're here to read and enjoy the story, not for complex gameplay. Simple and straightforward. Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is where Fox Hime Zero shines. The narrative connecting Mori, the Divine Fox, and the main character is well-crafted. The progression feels natural and keeps you invested. Graphics ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Live2D sprites are beautifully animated — especially the ears and tail movements! The CGs are elaborate and the character designs are adorable. Sound ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great soundtrack that fits the cozy mountain atmosphere. Japanese voice acting with matching lip animations adds personality to the characters. Control ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's a visual novel — click to proceed. Clean UI and easy to navigate. Replayability ⭐⭐⭐ Once you've experienced the story, there's not much reason to replay unless you want to revisit your favorite scenes or collect achievements. Innovation ⭐⭐⭐ The Live2D implementation with lip-sync is a nice touch, but otherwise it follows traditional VN conventions. Difficulty ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ No difficulty here — just sit back and enjoy the story. Value ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ At $1.99, this is an absolute steal for the quality of art, voice acting, and storytelling you get. Highly recommended for VN fans.

The backgrounds are pretty simple and the translations are not very good but you should buy the game to get the OST. The OST is really pretty good but it's the weirdest distribution format I have ever seen. You have to buy the MoriChan DLC and play the music with a bare bones music player that looks like a cute little girl. The icon in the upper right of the game starts the music player. I could not find the OST music files in the game folders. I think the files are buried in the file assets. I think the singing is in Japanese but the Cosplay DLC album is a photo album, not the OST. This is a really confusing distribution that the developers should fix. Check out Tricolour Lovestory from the same publisher that also has a pretty good soundtrack composed mostly of light piano music.

The artwork of the characters are so cute and the backgrounds are stunning. The OST greatly compliments the story. Can't go wrong especially with the price for a satisfying ending.

Fox Hime Zero's a cute visual novel about a love story of two. I didn't get bored while reading and could probably easily finish it in within a day if I wanted to, I'm not saying it's bad, on the contrary, I really liked the game's story, art, soundtrack and the VA for the characters. It took me 4h~ to finish reading the whole story and was enjoyable throughout. The translation to english didn't seem to have any flaw either, unlike this game's predecessor, Fox Hime. Seems like Zero was the reimagination of that one, and better made/written. I recommend it, usually the game's on sale as well, so if you want something nice to read for a while, just give it a go!
