A Video Game Comic Book A short review of Framed 1 & 2 Become an architect of the story, not just a player Framed is much more than a simple puzzle game: it’s a clever tribute to sequential storytelling — a kind of interactive graphic noir where each comic panel becomes a lever to reshape fate. Here, you don’t play within the frame, but with the frame. The core mechanic is all about rearranging or reinterpreting comic panels to rewrite the action. The gameplay revolves entirely around this idea: reshuffling frames so the protagonist(s) can escape, dodge their pursuers, and vanish into the night with a mysterious briefcase. The storytelling relies purely on visuals, without a single line of dialogue. The noir-detective-spy atmosphere is perfectly enhanced by subtle sound design and jazzy noir music. The lack of words combined with a minimalist visual direction — all shadows and silhouettes — deepens immersion. Characters are defined by a few essential traits (a mustache, a hat, a briefcase…), just enough to make them recognizable. It’s both elegant, mysterious, and clear. This artistic economy sharpens focus and becomes a strength. Try again The core gameplay — this rearrangement mechanic — is clever and allows for an intuitive, organic loop based on observation, experimentation, and failure. The difficulty curve is well-balanced. Frustration stays low, especially in Volume 1, with Volume 2 adding a bit more challenge and complexity, enough to get your brain working without tipping into annoyance or fatigue. The one downside is that sometimes it feels like there should be multiple possible solutions. Some arrangements make logical sense but are still rejected by the game, which slightly breaks the illusion of freedom that the comic-book storytelling concept suggests. Then again, maybe this is a meta-commentary on being a creator — a writer or comic artist: even in seemingly open narratives, choices have to be made, and some paths are necessarily discarded… Smooth like a smoothie To go further: the story itself… doesn’t really matter. It quickly fades into the background, even if there are a few twists and character intentions. What is the mystery at the heart of this game? (Or maybe I just didn’t get it.) In any case, we’re not especially emotionally attached to it. And that’s not a problem. The heart of Framed lies in its game mechanics, its atmosphere, and the intoxicating feeling of being both spectator, screenwriter, and director — all at once. It offers a beautiful dive into a specific aesthetic. And let’s be honest: the real vibe of the game is wanting to throw on a trench coat and sunglasses and play spy/detective. I think that’s the secret sauce. I mean, who hasn’t dreamed of being a private investigator or secret agent? Of holding onto world-shattering secrets? Of saving the world? Maybe Framed is just trying to tap into that fantasy. After all, we’re not just playing the story here — we’re building it. — In short, a smartly designed puzzle game that cleverly manipulates comic book conventions — and absolutely worth the price, since you get both Volumes 1 & 2 in one.

The most confusing part about this game wasn't the story and its twists, nor was it the gameplay, it was the fact that the Australian government was credited as one of the producing companies

A lighthearted, fun, short, super polished game, and it's pretty cheap! Don't expect a very deep or moving story; it is mostly an excuse to play some entertaining puzzles. Those of which are very light. They won't kidnap you for an eternity, at most it will take you 10 minutes to pass the harder puzzles. Very charming visuals, of course. It's impressive all the twist they gave to a single mechanic, so creative! All the animated failure states in the game give the impression of a very meticulous team and the game feels more complete thanks to that.

This is definitely a game you play for the style more than anything else. It's short and straightforward, and you can easily completely clear both games in one sitting. As a puzzle game it's not particularly complex outside of a few of the trickier levels, and these harder puzzles are difficult in both good and bad ways; the better ones nail the feeling of unravelling the interactions between the elements you're given until everything clicks cleanly into place, but there were 1 or 2 levels that just didn't do a great job of communicating how things will work and solving them ultimately just required brute force trial-and-error. The game makes up for its uncomplicated gameplay with its charm though. The visual style and music are excellent, especially in the 2nd game, and as a cheap single session experience it's well worth your time and money
