It's good. A satisfyingly different take on sci fi flight simming!

The campaign is unfinished and buggy (but devs left the console in if something gets broken, so you can finish the campaign wit a bit of tweaking). The game is bit on a grindy side while the upgrade system is rather shallow. The ships sometimes behave really unpredictably - or maaaaybe the simulation is deeper than I think it is :) As a VTOL SANDBOX just jumping from one island to another, fighting pretty harsh flight model, trying to land on a sea sponge or inside volcano, it is a GREAT LOT OF FUN FOR FEW DAYS of exploring and crashing.

Finally a use for the HOTAS that isn't elite!!! EDIT: I run a 10900k which is oc'd to 5.2 ghz and 64 gb ram and a 4070ti super. I hate these model designations but it'a 16 gb card. I mention this because I don't know what you run and this has a frankly weird weird ram recommendation of 24 GB. I don't think I have ever seen that number before. The non standard number makes me feel like it is going to use a ton of ram. Sound design is totally unimpressive. There are so many chances here for amazing sound design. I get why it might not fit the budget but with all the geysers and stuff around your ship the op;portunity for surround sound is wasted in my opinion. This is the long rambly review that I sent to a friend via pm and is probably a better picture of the game than my hotas comment. I want to add before this copy/paste that I think a yoke might be good for this game but I use an x52. And DO NOT install the logitech drivers. they are pure cancer. Plug it in and let windoes do it's thing. Also fire up the "setup usb game controller" screen where all the calibration stuff is and just let it chill out in the background, sometimes it helps with windows and joystick input recognition (like I need it open for any games to see my pinky button). Review begins: frontier pilot simulator rules. but a big part of the gameplay is the actual flying and the physics model is unlike other space games. This game is more comparable to lunar lander than elite. It is very cool but flying your ship is a much bigger deal. there are not landing computers. You have to be good.I have seen a lot of people say that controller is good and hotas is overkill but ♥♥♥♥ them I could give a ♥♥♥♥ I want to use the x52 Just. I have a tough trying trying to explain this but your ship is the character of this game. You pick up cargo and it affects how you fly. There is wind, there are geysers. You have to turnm on a special vision mode topm SEE wind and that is pretty cool At it's core it's a transportation game and it's just trying to be that and it works. If you can accept the premise of games like euro trucker I think it rules. There is not much of a tutorial, there is a plot if you want. The need for fuel is a thing, or battery charge which I think is lame. I would just liek to fly forever but it's a sim so I get it Take some time and blow up a bunch. Figure out how much of an impack your landing gear will take. impact Just like lunar lander landings in this game need to made gingerly Let me lay it down for you in the most succinct language I can. Landing in frontier pilot simulator is like kissing a squirrel. Anyway. strong recommendation from me. If you want a flight stick game that doesn't need to make you jump through 30 second long warps all the time then this is pretty cool Also, if you are the kind of person who checks games out via purchase/possible refund then 2 hours is more than enough time to know if this is the kind of flying you want to learnI do not know how your computer stuff is set up but I have had a couple of bugs which made me need to manually crash the game but they happened on menus where auto save had already happened The ship is you, the ship is the character. If you own a hotas you probably understand but for anyone else this is not a game you just pick up casually. I am not dissuading anyone from trying flying games but I want to stress that this stuff is super niche and the people who own the gear for this stuff treat gaming as more than a casual hobby. This is very much a niche game in a niche genre. If you want to get into flying games I think this would be a good choice. The control scheme is very simple and there is no combat. It is currently 30 bucks canadian. for me that is a good price because I seek this type of game. To finish off this crazy long review. This game is much more like lunar lander than it is like elita dangerous.

I really like this game but it does have a pretty good learning curve to it. It took me a while to not always crash when trying to land. I haven't gotten vary far in the game because I am constantly having to restart the game. Mostly because of the way you lose and then have to re get the cargo at the point where you lost it and sometimes that is impossible. I have used a controller plus throttle and joystick with this game I am not sure if it is just my throttle and joystick but I find it a little easier with a controller. Even with those problems I have mentioned I still really like this game. My biggest problem with the game is they won't further the game with expansion packs or dlc. It would be nice to see more things to fly and more planets to go to oh well. remember this is just my experience with the game yours might be better or worse. In conclusion I would recommend this game to others,

I'm super on the fence about recommending this to most people, as you are really thrown into the deep end with the physics and flight models. It can also take a while to actually get enough credits to buy anything useful. Many other reviews talk about bugs, but I haven't experienced any yet. Overall I would recommend it to people who have prior experience with flight sims, and have a solid chunk of time to spend learning the controls and progressing through the campaign.
