Dec. 2025
I came into this expecting some low-budget indie game with a slow-moving, kinda boring story but the price was real cheap so I bought it and gave it a chance. BOY am I glad I decided to fire this one up the other day. Sure, the art style and general vibe is VERY "indie", the dialogue is unvoiced (though the diary entries aren't), and the story and tone is VERY serious (just to be clear, this is not Monkey Island or Leisure Suit Larry), but it's one of those rare games of this type that actually lives up to, and deserves, it's pretensions. The story carries some real weight since it's rooted in relatively recent real-world history (there are still people living today who are old enough to remember this stuff). Let's be fair, though it's been 80 years since the war ended as of this writing, nazis still instill some very primal feelings in most people (and they should). The story takes place in 1945 nazi-occupied Denmark and the protagonist is a Danish-German nurse whose Danish husband is accused of helping the resistance while her German dad is working for the nazi occupiers. This means that while the bad guys are literal nazis, it's closer to Schindler's List than Indiana Jones or Wolfenstein (there's even an Oskar Schindler type character in the story). The game revoles around choices that affect your relations towards occupation/resistance and Danes/Germans, as well as individual people (which will lead to different endings of course).Since there are Danish nazi-sympathizers and German Jews, plus a bunch of people with different motivations for supporting one or the other, it makes for a pretty complex story and cast of characters. Clearly, it's not for everyone but if you enjoy Disco Elysium (even without the jokes) and What Remains Of Edith Finch (even without the gorgeous 3D graphics) and have a knee-jerk reaction to nazis, this game is very satisfying. The DLC let's you play as a supporting character leading the resistance. You could play that story or the main story in any order but they're both highly recommended. And yeah...if they do a fully voiced update of this game, I'd gladly pay the extra money. [EDIT] I read some of the other reviews and some people accuse this game of being hard for various reasons. It's not. If your skills are high enough, you'll pretty much always succeed at what you're attempting to do and the randon number generator means you can actually succeed at something despite having too low skills. While it's impossible to get a "perfect" run (having good relations with all sides and save every single character), the whole point of the game is making choices and it's usually pretty obvious what outcomes your choices will have. On my first run, I got an achievement that implied I got the "best" ending by helping people and doing what's right.

A point-and-click adventure that is rather simple in terms of gameplay mechanics, but that offers a lot in terms of game design, depth, wonderful graphics and soundtrack. The young nurse Gerda must navigate her personal struggles, as well as the social upheavals and hardships in Denmark in 1945 on her way to rescue her husband from the Gestapo. Conversations with locals and the German occupiers, as well as Gerda's decisions, significantly influence the course of the game, leading to different, very well written paths and endings. There are also lots of interesting historical facts about life in Denmark during the war and the danish resistance hidden in the game. It's worth to replay the game and try different paths. The DLC with the story of a danish resistance group, partly intertwined with the main story, is also worth checking out.

Great little game. Mechanically not very complicated, but still nice to play this point and click adventure. The story is amazing with lots of choices and lessons to learn from it. The characters are well written for both the protagonists and the antagonists. The art style is different but I liked the water-colour, painting-like look. This game is a mix of Disco Elysium and This war of Mine. Much shorter than the other two though. 8/10

I played this game as a casual narrative game between two "bigger" AAA titles. I was not expecting much. However, I ended up completely surprised by the captivating story, impactful decisions, the original artstyle and the serene soundtrack. The game goes to great lengths to portray a grey moral landscape near the end of German occupation of Denmark during WW II populated by layered, interesting characters. This is supplemented with some historical information about the occupation.. The decision impacts are not immediately obvious, which always leaves you doubtful if you did the right thing, and many decisions are actually double-edged tradeoffs. The art-style with its water-coloured look does not appeal to everyone, but I found it very serene and winterly, matching the tranquil soundtrack. Overall, I highly recommend this game and I feel it is maybe getting too little recognition.

This is an okay game that could have been great. There's an engaging, high-stakes and historically informative story, ruined by terrible mechanics. They are very "gamey" and artificial. Worse, they can feel arbitrary and implausible at times, like when you say something slightly negative about Germans in a private conversation with someone in the Danish resistance, and suddenly every German in Denmark dislikes you. Right.
