Domestic Games Review #2 34 golf courses on the wastelands of Earth. Mechanics are good enough to finish the game in Challenge mode but Iron mode where no mistake is permitted requires a lot of practice, nerves and luck. Hitting some hard shots can be really satisfactory. Levels are well designed, with enough variety to keep your attention until the end. Game needs a polish here and there, for example: the transition time between shots can be long; not having possibility to choose custom course after game completition; accessing game menu during the match requires 3-4 seconds... But overall, fine experience and it was good enough for me that I finished the game twice.

It was a treat to play this game, got it relatively cheap in a bundle and it was a lot of fun. It's a cozy golf game you can beat in an hour or two and the achievement hunt is pretty much playing all the courses 3 times over on different difficulties. My biggest and only pet-peeve about the game is that there is a story mode, challenge mode and 'iron will' mode. The first two, story and challenge are no different except that in story there is no requirement to meet par like there is on challenge, however there is an achievement for beating all levels on story AND challenge, kinda wish they had removed challenge mode and just made the achievement for beating story under par and awarded two achievements that way rather than having to play them all again on challenge mode but hey ho, didn't detract from the experience too much in my opinion and 'iron will' mode is basically hardcore from minecraft, beating all courses under par and without retries

It's a reasonably good little 2D, side profile golf game, with some nice animations and decent level design (although a few levels did manage to irritate... but then it is golf after all) wrapped up in a delightful audible assault that had me hooked from start to finish. Thinking about it the only times I started to get irritated was some of the harder levels towards the end where the radio gets cut off, for the rest of the game I didn't really care much if I was getting a bit stuck because the golf was almost a secondary activity to the listening. Then the story is this game ended up moving me to near tears and made me feel more human than any game has managed to in quite a while. I think it's only an OK game, but it managed to be a great experience.

Choose story mode. Wonderful music, visuals, and mood but horribly frustrating gameplay. By the time you've had to replay a par 18 for the third time due to the wonky controls, you'll wish you had just used story mode from the beginning.

Overview If the art on the cover and the name doesn't appeal to you, it's not likely that you'll enjoy this game a lot. It's a very simple game about golfing through a post-apocalyptic Earth not-so-far in the future. It's certainly got some important underlying thematic messaging, specifically about the nature of life and modernization. Especially if you choose not to play on challenge mode (but still even if you do) it's a very chill---and not very difficult--- game that lets you explore a post-apocalyptic world. That's really it. It's cool, but doesn't do anything crazy. Final One-Sentence Review: *In the midst of their pursuit of an impactful anti-modernist statement, Demagog Studio crafts a perfectly serviceable, interesting take on golf.* Sights/Sounds The game ran incredibly smoothly. The art-style is nice but nothing crazy. The standout in this department is the sound/radio. I loved listening to the interesting interviews/things they would do on the radio throughout my playthrough. Sometimes they would make political statements, sing to entertain, or just fill the silence. Little touches like giving the jetpack and chunky, movement-based noise, or having glass sound effects when breaking it, were really nice touches. Notes - The surround sound is wild - Sfx fit the game well and sound really crisp - Visual style is fantastic - 3d elements are really creative and well-used - Atmospheric asf - I love the radio sections. unironically feel incredibly nostalgic - Little touches like the noise/function of the jetpack and the shattering of glass are such nice additions - Music sometimes didn't fit the vibe or just sucked, unfortunately... - It wasn't until the 'repetition' song that i realized how much more of a statement the music was trying to make more than cultivating a vibe Gameplay There is not a lot to say here. It could easily be a mobile game. Just shoot your golf ball and get it in the hole through the (usually) well-crafted environments. There are some parts that I don't like, like the slow-ass menu in such a short, reset-heavy game, or the annoying, finnicky hazards, but it's perfectly fine for the most part. Notes - Gameplay is very simple but smooth and moderately fun - Since they have getting low stroke #'s as a feature, it should be a lot quicker to reset levels - The levels aren't too complicated, but they are very functional and look/feel cool to play through - Especially the non-golf feeling levels where you are actually making your way through abandoned environments - The gameplay mechanics like sand and water are just annoying. barely make it harder. this also doesn't seem like the kind of game to introduce difficulty for no reason like that. Make inherent difficulty, like in making impressive shots that the players can regulate for themselves. The difficulty factor there just took me out of the calming aura that the game had brought me before a little bit - I love the creative use of environmental hazards, ie. the cow Narrative This anti-modernist statement that they are pushing, whether that be through the dilapidated state of Earth, the mutant boy, or the subtle jabs at politics throughout the radio stations, they do a good job conveying their message. The runtime wasn't long enough, nor the fun factor present enough to feel particularly hard-hitting for me personally, though. Notes - The concept of going to space/other planets to play golf is really intriguing - The depressing statement-enriching post-apocalyptic story that the game tells is super interesting and ends on a very heart-touching note - Says a lot about the negative direction our society has been going in - Everything about this game is incredibly calming - the use of the 3d elements was fantastic... no spoilers but there was some moments...
