Genuinely one of the best games I have ever played. The art is adorable, the characters are lovable, its a fun puzzle game that doesn't involve anything more than pointing and clicking, the player character is the cutiest patootie in the world the character dialog is also just so good, I keep coming back to find things I've missed even after I've finished playing I also love how freaky everyone is, rename it to great goon grove only thing it needs now is a petting update and maybe even an option to perhaps oh i dunno.. smooch everyone?

First off, let me say that I bought this expecting just a casual kinda funny game. But the game had much more to offer than I had expected. (No spoilers in this review, I only reference the trailer.) The thing that first drew me in to even buy this game was the design style. I've always liked cartoony drawn styles in media, and when 2D and 3D are combined in different ways. For example, I also liked ENA: Dream BBQ. The characters in Great God Grove are unique. One god looks human-like, the other is a bird, or just straight up a corncob. It seemed like each character was designed without any template. Each character looked like what they were meant to represent. I really enjoyed all the different designs and styles. From the 2D art to the 3D to the actual recording fragments of the Bizzyboys puppets! The game is not that difficult. I mean, it is tagged as a casual game after all. But it was not boring. Far from that. I really liked the game's main mechanic, which is sucking up someone's dialogue and then firing it at others. I found myself wanting to shoot each and every dialogue at everyone to see everyone's reaction. I myself really like squeezing all dialogue out of a game, but if you're not too much a fan of that, you don't have to. You need to figure out what you need to say to whom, and that doesn't necessarily mean you have to shoot each dialogue at everyone (but it does help lmao). The game also had a lot of funny dialogue or other stuff that could be triggered. (only taking examples from the trailer.) Like being able to scare the cow into going upside down or the dialogue ''GET A HAIRCUT!'' making someone instantly go bald. And being able to shake your head 'yes' or 'no' to answer gods was also a fun touch! And last but certainly not least, the story. For a game looking silly 'n goofy in the trailer alone, it had more story than I expected. I was constantly theorizing in my head about what was going to happen further along the story. I'm not gonna say more about the expierence I had, because I want the people that haven't played this yet to experience the game for themselves. Everyone interprets things differently. If you're looking for a casual funny game that has a story element, this one's for you. So all in all, I really enjoyed the different design aspects of the game, and the main mechanic of sucking up someone's dialogue and then firing it at others. I also liked the funny bits of the game and relished the story. I RECOMMEND!

The best way to summarize Great God Grove is that it's a short, artsy little piece that takes a lot of pages from the playbook of Undertale's pacifist route. I don't mean to be derivative in this comparison, however. Just so players know what to expect, it follows a lot of the same beats: the player character is a silent protagonist who arrives to a small community, helps each denizen with their their interpersonal problems by navigating their dialogue, and then gets said community together to resolve the over-arching threat to it. To talk about the game itself more specifically, I would describe it best as an interactive children's book. The focus is more on the morals that it presents over the depth of its writing. The colorful characters and visuals are definitely the game's strongest points: there's a plethora of endearing and unique personalities to enjoy, and the overall visual presentation is executed really well. Just don't expect that deep of a narrative. In summary: this is an admirable little piece of feel-good eye candy. You can finish this game in roughly 6 hours, so pick it up if you want a little treat of goofy, endearing characters, as well as some pretty visuals and an interesting soundtrack.

It's a decent little adventure. Just... shallow. There is exactly 1 mechanic, the puzzles are pretty straightforward, but for this kind of game I wasn't really expecting too much on the gameplay front. What surprised me is how shallow a lot of the characters were. They all have distinct personalities, have unique designs, and you can tell a lot of love went into them. But 90% of the characters in the game, including the centerpiece gods, you interact with once or twice for maybe 2 bits of unique dialogue. It is particularly noticeable with the gods: they have a little personal dialogue, but they mostly serve as hint machines for the immediate area. So much effort and they mostly just dispense hints for the area! I like what I saw, I just wish I saw more.
