despite the couple of problems with the game crashing, this game is pretty peak.... playing it at the arcade is better though ^•⩊•^

If you like rhythm games and you've never played groove coaster it's worth buying on sale just to see what it is. It's a fun game overall, even if the steam version is held back by abandonment and a lack of polish.

Grabbed a variation of Groove Coaster on the Switch (the first one released--the second one is in my Wish List). Enjoyed the crap out of it. Decided to check out the edition available on Steam Well, this game has a clear amount of "earlier game in a franchise" elements going for it. I would say, first play one of the versions of this game on the Switch (personally, I can only vouch for the first one)--and then return to play this game after you've played those other ones for a bit. This _IS_ a solid game. It just has a bunch of rusty portions that are polished off in later editions in this franchise It has some weird quirks, as the "miss" window extends before the note(?beat?), so if you are looking for the various hidden notes--you do have to be mindful that you might accidentally hit a visible mark "too early" and have it registered as a miss. It does remove the notion of "spamming for adlib notes" as a "viable strategy"... but the adlib notes are placed in extremely arbitrary locations anyways It also defaults to expecting you to be using a keyboard instead of a gamepad... which would be fine if you could access a config menu to tell it, "hey, let me use the gamepad" prior to the insistence that you run through the tutorial to be allowed to play the game. So you will want to try the keyboard controls for at least one of the tracks (the required tutorial upon first loading of the game) Quirky and odd--a decent experience if you enjoy the Groove Coaster games--but there are better entries in this franchise. Still--I'm going to be playing it a decent amount

This is an incredible music/rhythm game for people who are a little tired of the status quo, and enjoy weird peripheral controllers/schemes. Shelled out for a nice Yuancon controller and have no regrets. Set monitor to Portrait mode and it feels nearly identical to the arcade experience. Controls: Strongly recommend the [unfortunately expensive] dedicated controller. I think the game feels half-baked without it. I made a custom stand for my Steam Controller in an attempt to bridge the gap a little bit and make it feel more arcade-authentic, but it was extremely awkward. Timing/Calibration: For people having issues with finicky timing, like it feels off on a per-song basis: try an extreme adjustment to your calibration. I had mine calibrated to +X and felt like I was having to adjust it after every song, pulling my hair out. Finally just went to -X just to see, and that's where it actually needed to be calibrated. Turns out that the finicky timing was ...me. My last adjustment was 6 gameplay hours ago and I'm having no issues whatsoever. I do wish they had a better system for calibration. I played DJ Hero (2009) again recently, and there's a whole auto-calibration system where you press buttons with sound and images. It's effortless and accurate. I don't understand why any studio producing music/rhythm games wouldn't do something like this; seems like a no-brainer.
