April 2025
I have mixed feelings about HM ever since the split and they went their own way, and this game is really no exception. The Good: - Runs on steamdeck, no complaints - Toggles to change how stamina is used was a game-changer - Teleport is a super nice and convenient feature, esp with how big the map is - Ability to get animals and seeds for free? That's awesome; loved that idea - Lots of animal variety, loved that The Meh: - Very limited character customization - Very limited outfits, just a couple that are for function over design. - Basic/flat character, though this may not be a turn off for everyone - Other characters, too, are pretty flat/basic and not well-developed. A big change of pace from a series that historically has had very successful and interesting romancables. Also, no older dating options, and the pool is pretty limited. - Feels weird all other NPCs basically exist but have almost no personality, no portraits, and seem to just take up space. - Can be difficult figuring out how to unlock all mutations; there's no guide. Part of the challenge, sure, but I'd have at least liked the option for some hints The Bad: - Storyline is basically a series of "fetch this" quests around you saving the land. I don't know why this bothered me, but I just felt like a glorified unpaid courier. - Open world map they didn't do a lot with. I don't know why; there was a lot of potential. Everything is super spread apart - Mining is honestly painful in this game. You can't save as you go, rocks constantly fall on you (sometimes multiple times from the same rock), and several ores/gems have the same color so you can't easily figure out what you're mining until after you hit it. Not a fan. Overall, in my estimation it's worth playing if you have time to kill, but I'd only pick it up on sale. I wouldn't pay full price for this.

I've played all the harvest moon games from GBA to 3DS then to the Story of Seasons games. I think this one is probably close to the to top of my list. The open world concept is really interesting. Adding in the camping feature so you don't have to worry about getting back to home in time. Personally really enjoy the fishing mini game.

I've played every harvest moon from the GBC Harvest Moon 2 all the way up to this one, as well as the Story of Seasons games when they spun off, Rune Factory, and quite a few similar indie titles. This is the best harvest moon experience to be had in my opinion. A good, not overwhelming story. A customizable house that you can move to different areas around the world map. Interesting cities. In-depth crop farming mechanics. Fun wild animal taming. Excellent mining and fishing. Wonderful exploration. Highly Recommended. DLC is not necessary nor game-breaking outside of a few niche circumstances, and can be bought after you've played a bit to round out the experience a bit more.

At first I played this game through... other means... but it was so amazingly good that I bought it and finished the game twice. It scratches the itch for adventure that I always love. I haven't been pleased with a harvest moon game in a long time.

Very nice, chill game. The design of the open world can be frustrating sometimes. That would be my only negative. It is a great game. Runs great on Steam Deck too. Recommended.
