Short review of 'full' game + DLC, purchased on sale for ~$4 (USD): I expected a bare-bones, yet functional & cute, reproduction of the board game. That is definitely here as "classic mode". Well done. But there's a whole new mode called "Commanders" that adds special abilities (bombs, etc), differently shaped ships (tetrominos, etc). It turns it into a more exciting game. Almost a combination of Battleship, Minesweeper, and... well something original, I suppose. I'm very surprised by the quality. The sound effects and music are fine. It's a bit 'mobile' in presentation which doesn't bother me a bit, but (aside from the DLC) there's no micro-transactions or anything. No boosts. There seems to be 5 A.I. difficulty levels, though only three are visible. The three visible are for single player: Easy, Normal, Hard. They work mostly appropriately. The two hidden difficulty levels are in "multiplayer". If there's no real players waiting, you get a bot with a fake 'human' name. You might get Easy, Normal, or Hard, but also maybe one of the two hidden difficulties: #1: absolutely random nonsense idiot, or #2: unstoppable psychic machine I think the base price might be a tad high, but I'm still pleasantly surprised with the whole deal. Good stuff. (edit: typos)

Fun game to have for playing with a friend. Most of the time you queue into a match online you're just gonna be faced against a bot, but its expected considering the game's price for a simple battleship game. Fun overall.

REVIEW #106 Hasbro's BATTLESHIP ---------- Battleship is a board-game classic that I loved as a kid and still do as an adult, and Marmalade Game Studio have put together a very solid digital translation here with Hasbro's BATTLESHIP. The visual style and sound effects are good, the music is decent, and the game moves at a fluid pace without being bogged down by unnecessary animations. Single-player and online multiplayer options are both available, and there's also 2 different play modes: Classic and Commander, with the latter featuring differently shaped arenas and unique special abilities that change depending on what commander you select as your avatar. The only technical issue with Hasbro's BATTLESHIP that I've come across is that connecting an online friends-only game can be a little wonky and doesn't always happen as smoothly as it should, sometimes requiring a game restart to work. Additionally, to have access to all arenas and commanders, you have to purchase an additional DLC pack that's currently $15 USD, more than the price of the base game (currently $12 USD). That last aspect feels a bit greedy on the developer/publisher end of things, especially since the content that you'd get with that DLC pack would be purely cosmetic except for when you play in Commander mode. Otherwise, Hasbro's BATTLESHIP is a great digital version of an awesome classic board game. I highly recommend this to those who love classic Battleship and also to fans of casual games in general.
