Well made game with an awesome sound track. The story is very promising. I thought I was experiencing a bug so I lodged a ticket. Turns out it wasn't a bug I was just being a moron. Thor responded to the ticket promptly and respectfully as one could be when they receive a stupid ticket. Play the game and watch his streams

I went and looked at a small indie game I bought at its launch and left a small review for 2 years ago. It was the 2nd time I ever left a review for a game in the 15ish years I’ve been on steam. It seems like because basically nobody saw their game, or saw it and didn’t try it the dev has given up. I was heartbroken and pissed so I updated my review with a rant and I felt like sharing it here. “It breaks my heart that in 2024 I can look at the steam store and see Overwatch 2 that has almost 300k reviews in which barely 20% of them are positive. Yet 38,500 people are playing it on steam right now. We as a community have very obviously gotten our symbolic gestures down. I just don't understand why we've chosen to only express it in a negative way. While you're doom scrolling steam to find your next bundle of sale items to never play don't just pass over this one. It's a $.99 game done by just one person or maybe a couple who are clearly passionate about games from Istanbul. The art is really unique and cute, appears almost hand drawn and they very clearly wrote their own music. From now on I'm no longer going to scream at billion dollar corporations who don't even view me as a human but as a mechanism to make themselves richer. I'm instead going to give money to developers like this so that they don't give up on their dreams. This developer created socials for this game, for their company and a website but just as fast we never heard from them again. It's because we're so busy lamenting the death of gaming as an art form as we queue for another apex match. From now on I'm going to seek out developers like this who are trying to preserve that legacy and support them. If we don't do that in 20 years we're going to be talking about the next big WoW expansion, Diablo 6.5 that needs loot 2.0, Call of Duty Black Ops Infinity and how your favorite movie was made by Marvel. You're not buying a small cheeky game you'll never play for $.99 you're sending a message to the developer to never stop dreaming big. For the love of god if you don't buy this game right now I will come to your house and delete your Fortnite skins. If you want to stand for something, stop only thinking of yourself and start standing for the little guy. If you want games to get better you need to support the people who are trying to do so.” I immediately thought about Hearbound and knew that I needed to finally buy it. My biggest hope, my dream, for gaming is that the future of gaming as a whole is led by people like that developer. People like Pirate Software, people like Thor. People who make games because it is their passion and it is their dream to make video games. I don’t want to invest in a c suite executives bonus, I want to invest in people’s dreams. I don’t know if I will ever play Heartbound but that doesn't matter to me. I know this game was made with more love, passion and commitment than any one person has felt at Blizzard, EA or Ubisoft for a decade or more. I’m done buying AAA games and only playing it because $70 is a lot of fucking money I don’t want to waste. I would rather buy a game and not play it because I’m helping someone realize their dreams. My opinion on Heartbound, and games like it, is that in the end it is irrelevant if it’s a masterpiece or not. I know by only watching Thor work that even if it’s not a masterpiece to you, it’s his heart and soul poured out to you. It’s not a masterpiece like Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel where it’s expected to be good. It’s a masterpiece like Van Gogh where the artist is just doing it just for the love of art despite any criticism. I know a game that was made with the same love and affection a parent gives a child can not, by the definition, be a bad game. You support Thor’s fantastic dreams by buying this game. You support the future of gaming. You also subsequently get a really good game to play. That’s what I think about Heartbound.

Found this because I saw all the youtube shorts and videos, I'm not normally a big scroller/story game person but it looked like a lot of love and passion had been put into this game, so I thought I'd give it a shot. From the start of the game that love and passion was clear, however I just couldn't get immersed in the story. For anyone who is not normally the kind of 'lots of text' game enjoyer like me, I think you'll struggle to get into this. For people who like the lots of story telling they'll absolutely love it. I also found due to the game being such a small dev team the script writing/jokes are very heavy to one personality so if you don't like the way the story telling is conveyed/ a lot of puns you won't enjoy it. I believe this is the issue I had more than the mass of words issue, I just don't connect with lots of needless puns and they way the story is told, but that's just specific to me. Play the demo and you'll quickly realise whether you like it or not. I feel like if they made a second game and worked on their script writing it would go a long way having that experience. I also very much recommend trying the game at least to help fund a game developer who does care about their players and that needs to be appreciated more than what Triple A games have been doing lately with buggy and poor storytelling games.

I played this game not knowing what to expect, I'm only 20 minutes in, and I was struck with the realization that the opening feels like a hug from my dad. the darkness surrounds you, the walls close in, but no matter how bad it gets.... there's still a strong warm glimmer of hope that says "keep going, you are doing so good" my dad killed himself in 2020. I cried over a video game opening because I felt things I hadn't felt since he died. warm, safe, and like maybe the world wasn't so bad. F@#@ you Thor, making me cry over a goddamn video game. But.... thank you. I felt things. if you're reading this and you don't feel anything, that's okay. Permit me to go on a tangent. Do you remember Malibu sunglasses? They were these prescription sunglasses that polarized the light differently, they had these displays with stickers that were polarized like the glasses, so when you put them on they'd appear to suddenly be more saturated, and you'd see a logo where before you saw paper. Then you could squint at the paper and pick the logo out, because you'd seen it. That's what trauma is like. You see things in a way that other people don't, and no matter what, you cant un-see it. Maybe my experience is different, maybe the opening sequence makes you happy, or sad, or you feel nothing at all. it's okay. you just haven't put the glasses on. I hope you never do.

I beat the system by doing nothing, and had a mild existential crisis when i became a mushroom stamping letters in the darkness. I'm the kind of player who, in a game like this one, wants to click on and interact with everything just to see what happens, what flavor text was added in the game. I am sometimes surprised, but usually there's just a smattering of random descriptions. In this game, though... you are encouraged AND rewarded for clicking on everything. The attention to detail in this game, the weird setting, the socks I'm collecting... all of these things have immediately hooked me, and I can tell this is one I'm really going to make a meal of. I bought it to support the dev, I'm playing it because when someone describes their approach to creating a game as "a choose your own adventure, where every choice you make actually has some impact, small or large", I'm already sold. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of this one and I already know it's going to be one I finish and rave about to anyone who'll listen to me. Slow down. Enjoy life. But don't become a mushroom in the dark.
