Not a whole lot different than Hero of the Kingdom, this time instead of searching for your dad kidnapped by bandits, you're searching for your sister kidnapped by pirates. Probably the biggest difference from the first game is that new areas are unlocked much more quickly, so there's a lot more bouncing around locations to find the items you need and quests to complete. Anyhow, this game is more-or-less the same as the first, so if you liked that, you'll probably like this, if you didn't, you won't,
-- It is a little short for the price. -- Resources don't re-spawn, so unlocking all the achievements is a lot of work. ++++ It is an easy little game for days you don't have it in you to play something more substantial. ++++ There are several infinite gold loops to make getting through the game very easy. ++++ The story in this game is imo the best in the series by far. ++++ We get a ship and crew in a pirate setting, much better than the other 2 games in the series imo. If you only want to get one of these games, get this one, unless you are an achievement hunter, in that case go for the 3rd one, with it's re-spawning of everything getting 100% of the achievements is easy, unlike in the first 2 where you can very easily miss things and only land at about 85 - 95% achievements unlocked, get it on sale though, it goes on 80% sales often, and considering how short this game is i had no problem waiting for a sale.
TL/DR: Everything that made Hotk1 enjoyable is present in HotK2. Worth the cost. After being pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable HotK1 was, I bought this sequel. Overall, I liked it. The gameplay and general look of HotK2 is similar enough to the first that the gamer can immediately dive on in. The keep-it-moving feel ("Just One More Turn" in the 4X genre) is also a very welcome continuation from the first. The hidden object aspect didn't interest me much in either 1 or 2. The biggest difference between 1 and 2 is that 2 is noticeably longer and much less linear. The map that enables the gamer to bounce quickly from region to region does an excellent job at mitigating the occasional moments of annoyance that this created.
