I did not expect to enjoy this, but I really did. There's not a lot to say, it's a 4 hour point and click adventure game with a ton of little things to find along the way. If you cannot find them all, or don't have great vision, then there's great steam guides to help you out. This game doesn't have any accessibility options, so if you have poor vision, you should give it a miss as the game doesn't give you anything for that. I have good vision and I found it hard to see a lot of things. The game has a lovely soundtrack, was probably my favourite bit about the game to be honest. I usually turn the music on games off, because I tend to be watching other things at the same time. But with this game, I left it on. Well worth doing. You play as the son of a farmer and your farm comes across troubling times... very troubling. So you go off on an adventure to find your father. You eventually find yourself embroiled in far greater trifles than farming and have to become, exactly as the games title suggests, the Hero of the Kingdom. The graphics look like Age of Empires 2, to me at least. It was great getting to just explore the world instead of having to rush to build 100 paladins and park them in my friends base for his "protection" before betraying him. Wonder why he doesn't play with me anymore... It was a great joy to just go from area to area, looking for eggs in trees or mushrooms. There's a lot of vendor trash, so if you're struggling for money, do check the guides, some of them tell you what is safe to sell. Personally. I loved the game, and it's encouraged me to buy the others... Apparently I already had the second one and didn't know it. (Probably from a bundle once upon a time.) So I know what I'm doing tomorrow. quirky little game that gets you hooked. not really much to it and fairly repetitive (you go over and over the same areas).. and you cant cut wood (at least I cant yet.. but I have an axe! and there are plenty of trees.. so you'd think 1+1=2! but no.. you cant cut wood.. only buy it, which is disappointing). but other than that.. it was a little bit of fun.. but no replay value whatsoever
You know, Hero of the Kingdom is a fine enough way to spend a chill Sunday afternoon. There's no challenge to the game and it has a little bit of a pixel hunt element to it that I liked. There isn't a whole lot in the way of a narrative, you just go screen to screen clicking on stuff, and I enjoyed it well enough. Don't expect too much and pick it up on sale.
