There's just something about this fucking story, man. No matter how much time passes I still find myself thinking back to Tsumihoroboshi almost as much as I do Umineko, and Umineko is like so much of the mantra I live my life by. I only really feel like writing reviews for parts 5 and 6 since they left the deepest impressions on me but what I write here reflects on the series as a whole. If you've ever wondered why Rena is the face of Ryukishi's works, this is it, it's because of her struggle for completeness in this story. She's a beautiful, tragic figure and the sentiment of "happy days are limited" will never not be haunting. Like a lot of Ryukishi's works, it's a fable that provides a simple philosophy you can incorporate into your own life to become a richer person. Spoilers: I also feel like the rooftop duel is a perfectly capable ending point for Higurashi as a whole. This is the point where our protagonists have truly won, where all barriers have been broken down. The reason the Higurashi cast struggle is because they can never speak their true feelings, and once this barrier is overcome their victory is inevitable no matter what circumstances are thrown at them. Chapters 7 and 8 really just feel like victory laps to me compared to the critical tipping moment in this volume. "Let’s go, everyone, let our hearts become one. Conquering any storm. The cry of the cicadas turn into psalms. Now the world is opening its curtains."

I just got nostalgia 6 years after I reading this and realized I never reviewed this. You don't really need a review if you are on chapter 6, you'll keep pressing on, but you are in store for some of the best storytelling in all of fiction, so buckle up. You only get to read this for the first time once so enjoy it while you can before you have to enjoy it vicariously off of lets players experiencing this peak. On the bright side, after you finish this, Chapter 7 is also cracked

In my restless dreams, I see that town - Hinamizawa... This is an expertly-written tale of friendship and conspiracy, paranoia and trust, despair and redemption. Probably my favourite individual Higurashi chapter so far!

Love the build up in and the interweaving of actual ideas and information with over-the-top crazy. This one was quite the ride, the ending was one of the weaker I would say, but the suspense and slow creeping mystery up to that point was some of the best writing the series has had so far. The author does a good job of feeding just enough information to let your imagination run at times, leaving you wondering which parts are relevant, and which are not.

The most thoroughly thought out and well written scenario of Higurashi. The parallels between this and Onikakushi and the multi layered narrative make this a sublime reading experience.
