OK, so day 2 of being essentially unplayable. Not changing the thumb yet, but I can't support a game I can't play and so we are clear, my PC is more than capable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I installed the game last night. I played this morning and it was great, leading me to write the review below. Went back to play some more later today and it is now terrible. Stutters so bad it is now unplayable. I assume this is the result of the most recent patch. Please fix it before you get the same response the previous Dev got... I will leave the thumbs up in place for now, but... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I did not know about this game until recently when I watched a GameEdged play through. At first, I thought knock off of The Infected. Then I thought The Infected is a knock off of HYO. But really, they are pretty different. I have been reading up on the history and this new Dev really seems to have taken the bit and is working hard. I decided to give it a try and am I glad I did. I love it. I could go on about the graphics and the UI and such, but we each have our likes and dislikes so it may or may not work for you. If you don't pay attention, it is easy to run into a bad guy/gal or three as you wander around a corner or bash through some trees. If you do, then you have only yourself to blame.

The new owner looks like he knows what is going on, enough experience to clean the old code and make it run smooth, he also did post his vision for future changes the game will get. It is a nice surviving game, you need to play smart, i do advise people to buy it and who bought it before to try it again and help the owner to make it even better by sharing their own experiences.

By looking at my game list you can easily tell i am HUGE survival fan. I absolutly love me a good crafty survival game. I bought this game about 2 days ago and have been addicted to it. I LIKE the game but there are some cons that caused me to grow bored, sadly. I have 30 hours played on this game. Here is my opinion of the games pros and cons PROS: * great building and farming system *you can control the difficulty when starting a new game *the game has quests ! (most survivals dont) * I love the fact you can capture animals for produce *day and night cycles arent too long or too short * The AI's are a great addition to this game. It would not be as great without them. * The electricty for bases was a great idea! *You dont lose anything when you die . except some of your overall health that you can get back from eating certain foods. * you can build on the other islands * thank god you can respawn your heli if you lose it CONS: *The game ofcourse has a few glitches but nothing you cant work around without starting over. *there needs to be more base crafting content. Like different colored fences or decorative furniture. Most people that love survival games also lot to customize their bases. (plus it would give us something to do during the nights since we cant sleep) *There's no fishing :( *There's no sleeping through the night * i dont like that they split hunger into two catagories. *no teleport or respawn at different location options. Even if you save game right before a battle, if you die the game auto saves so you cant just reload a saved file to start over. *The games needs more decor on the islands. besides trees and plants, there are only a few houses on each island. some cool campsites, run down houses, rivers, waterfalls, trails ect would improve this game ALOT! We love exploring. * there needs to be a "sign" you can craft to label your loot boxes at base. Maybe even shelves to store the boxes to save space. * a map would be nice. Overall the game is pretty good but it lacks in detail. Hopefully the creators will add some more content like with the game "Rust" it's one of my favorites! the crafting system and detailed maps is amazing but just like this game, it started out very simple. I have big expectations for "hold your own"! they are really doing a fantastic job so far.

I reccommend this game. It's EA, and it just launched a couple days ago, and the devs have been hard at work squashing whatever bugs pop up. There's not much of a premise, but most survival games aren't about storylines or lore. You start on an island with an axe, a torch, a pistol and presumeably no pants to put any of these items in. It's a mysterious island housing in perfect harmonious coexistance; chickens, pigs, cows, deer, wolves, and bears. The staples are there; HP meter, stamina, hunger, thirst. (So far no temprature system is implemented.) Noob quests to walk you through building a pickaxe, starting a base, hunting, etc. My house consists of one floor, with various crafting stations strewn about. As it stands, things like walls and ceilings are a luxury. If my house were featured on MTV's Cribs, I would point out the opulence of my floor, and talk about how it holds things off the actual ground. One day I may add steps, but even that seems like a feat of extravagance. To eat, you gotta build a bow and some arrows. Simple stuff with wood, fibers, and stone. Chickens are probably the boss creatures, because they're fast AF! I eat a lot of pork. Pigs in Hold Your Own are the staple. They don't outrun me, and I've devised a near-flawless sytem of basically humping them across the forest while they run, and putting 3 shots directly into their dirtstar. (that's their weak spot) Sometimes they do an incredible lightning dodge, but usually it's only 3 arrows. There are wierd people on the island. I think they're clones. They carry a shotgun, and patrol the woods telling any non-clones "Hey, you shouldn't be here!." Sometimes they say this to me in my yard, which, admittedly is just an unmarked perimeter around my one raised floor tile. It's kind of rude, and The Bible says clones are an abomination, so, like Buddy, maybe you shouldn't be here! The crafting is fairly robust. It's a happy medium between Subsistence, and 7D2D. You can build a nice house, but there's seemingly 1 type of structure. If you've seen any of the pictures on Steam, you know how it will look. You make a campfire to cook, and eventually unlock a stove for stat food. You can build tools and basic clothes within your inventory before crafting a forge, then a workbench. The workbench unlocks a weapons crafting table, a water collector, the stove, a loom, a saw table, which enables animal pens, and some more. It's a solid $15 purchase. I don't regret it after a couple hours like some of the similiarly priced, solo survival crafting games. If the devs continue showing it the attention that they have in the first 48 hours since launch, it will blossom into a solid contender in this already bloated arena.
