To preface: i have played a few Ruguelite games on VR now and it seems to be a popular genre for making a "loads of content" with little resources. Its just smart design given the resources and I appreciate it on VR more than in flat. The genre is growin on me. This is another addition to the "yeah, it was actually OK". But as OK it remained. The game lacks a serious depth. Once you discover a optimal playstyle for you - mine was just staying at roofs and longshotting everyone one by one and spamming bosses with soecial arrows, tanking their damage - , that can carry you through the game and the whole game will take 2-3h to see all the - meaningful -content which comes as a suprise as the PC/,Steam version is the stripped down version. The Oculus version has 3 levels, this has 2. The visuals as a concept is SUPER COOL. Right up my alley! Minimalism blended with Renaissance art and that whole "Demonic Heaven" thing. Love that. But the attempt at photorealism on assets ruins a lot of it as the game doesn't have resources to pull it off. Tgere is a way to have dark fantasy but low demand artsyle which is gorgeous, like Diablo, Dishonored, Darksiders. But it was clear the dev team did not have resources for art direction like that. Gameplay becomes monotone quickly. The game can be fairly difficult even on first "loop" before you have gotten your bearings. But I conpleted (and lost interest in the game) after 2-3h and completing the first loop. That is where the gameplay ends. There are 2 weapons (well 3 if you count shield and its little damage). Both sre fine, but Crossbow is just superior because the spammability and consistency. The bow is quite difficult to use with SLAM tracked headsets as pulling the arrow back to the headset can cause tracking issues. Also there is no smoothing so the mini stutters/wiggles are annoying. All these things have been solved by VR games later on in the years but this was so esrly that I give it a free pass on a lot of things. For a game from 2018 in VR it is VERY GOOD and I can see why it has reviews so well compared to its contemporaries. Now days its a solid (soulslite experience) purchase on sale, not full price unless you want to support devs. It is a easy recommendation, but one must know what they are getting into. Small team, low budget but a worthy experience.
