The funny thing is that I don't know of any of the recent slurry of ripoff "idle tower defense" mobile games based on infinitode. Yet in a way, via convergent evolution, their meta-progression systems are all unknowingly chasing this game's success. It is probably the paragon of "incremental tower defense" for this tiled style of tower defense (you can look at the trailers to see what I mean). Also on that note, I'll add here that the midgame-unlocked "infinity" difficulty mode includes that enemies can walk over buildable tiles that don't have towers or modifiers on them, so it is that sub-sub-genre as well, in case that's your thing. The game is genuinely creative in the design of its towers and enemies, and since the semi-recent patches, I'd say (comparatively) very well balanced. It also does a great job of pacing in that it starts out very simple, with primordial archetype towers (such as "basic", sniper, exploding cannon) and enemies (basic enemies, fast, strong), and gets more complex over time as you unlock new mechanics and more complex towers (missile, laser, and splash becomes useful because of enemy resistances) to synergize and cope with more complex enemies (flying, healer, "icy", "light", which dynamically gains tower resistances). In the end there are 11 main enemies, 5 bosses, and 16 towers for reference. There are also new mechanics that get added in like powers, which cost exclusively in-game currencies to recharge between runs, miners to put on resource nodes which appear on maps, which are used as meta-progression, recharging powers, and some in-game stuff like the later experience modifier and gauss tower which make miners very useful even after you have unlocked everything. This game does mildly cater to tower defense fiends like me in the mid to late game. Think of BTD6, except everything is transparently labeled. (No, the sniper's Ultimate ability upgrade doesn't read "Woe be the *strong* and the *fighters* from afar.") Those who know I guess. As you can see from the trailer, stuff is generally unlocked and upgraded through the extensive research tree. I remember getting the IAP for instant research unlocked for my account through getting the game on steam but I might be misremembering. The tree is massive and will take you a *very* long time to complete, especially on the harder "infinite" game mode, which dramatically increases the max level for a lot of upgrades. The "final" progression upgrade is unlocking the developer debug console itself. I have no idea what that exactly looks like because after 100+ hrs according to steam, I'm still nowhere near getting it. If you like games with long-term progression, this is the right game for you. I'll finish this review with a mild warning, to those who it concerns: The game is a bit grindy. I don't even say that as a super negative thing, as slowing the game down later on means each new tower after reaching midgame feels "earned". I worked for the gauss and crusher towers, and it made me excited to unlock them and see what they did. I will say that between always being able to try out new strategies, the per-resource temporary bonuses which affect random levels, and the quest system (which often encourage you to shake things up to get more rewards on that level, with the list of quests being ramping and pre-defined for each level), going back to old levels to grind for resources is never nearly as boring as it sounds. However, if you're the kind of person who needs new content every 1-2 hrs of gameplay so you don't lose interest, this is probably not the game for you. Then again, if you're a tower defense nerd like me, you probably have a higher-than-average attention span and tolerance for lack of stimulation.

The essence of the Tower defense genre boiled down on a rusty spoon and injected directly into your veins. If you derive dopamine from: - Incremental progress - Disgustingly huge tech trees - Create your own _____ - Rogelike trial and error - "strategy" - Pretty colors - Randomness - Community based challenges This game was literally designed from the ground up for you.
