April 2025
Now that i've got every ending and finished the game, i'm finally able to write a proper review for this. First, it goes without saying this game is best experienced as a Kamitsubaki fan, however i can safely recommend this to people that knows nothing about Kamitsubaki at all. The world building and story does not rely on subtle references to be good, and the thing that got me by surprise the most is how the game doesn't shy away from it's self-proclaimed "Dark Fantasy" genre. Let's start with story. Considering a game from a label that mainly manages singers (and many Virtual ones), i honestly expected quite a lukewarm, easy-going or a very safe formula for the main gist of the story, however i am happy to say the game betrayed my expectations. The story does not hold back when things get dark, and does not hit brakes when things will go wrong. In a good way, it made me very self-conscious of my every choice i'm making. The world building is really complex, with multiple layers of underlying lore and a plethora of jargons to explain how their world works. Things beautifully connects to each other at some point, so meeting unexplained jargons or subtle hints really sets your curiosity on how it's gonna play its part later on. Unlike visual novels in general, the game saves you from having to pick very specific choices in order to reach a specific route / ending, and instead lets you pick which route you want to go for after completing the tutorial, effectively making it a true "novel" in a sense, with the linear reading experience. Next, the visual stand point. The character stills were great, as they were really expressive with a lot of expression variations and poses to go along with. The backgrounds were also beautifully drawn, both of the ones that depicts real-life sceneries, and one that depicts otherworldly aspects. The unique scenario CGs were on the lacking side in my opinion, however the quality are excellent too so i won't really pick on them on that aspect. Now, to the audio bits, starting with the voice acting. The whole game is fully voiced (except the MC and narration) which is a delight, especially for the fans. As some of the characters are voiced by the respective singers they are modelled from, i did not expect much in terms of voice acting since it is not their expertise, but i am happy to say that the game, again, betrayed my expectations. While of course not every one of them did a stellar job, most did a good job on voicing the characters, with a few of them being the one doing a stellar job at it, even in situations that needed expression of raw emotions. Aside from their own singers, they also got some big name voice actor/actresses such as Sakura Ayane, Sugita Tomokazu and others to voice the characters, which again, is a delight with the fully voiced scenarios. As a game made by a creative label with music as it's main focus, the soundtracks were definitely on point, with most being an arrangement from existing songs, again making a better experience for the fans, but are still beautiful pieces nonetheless. Last one i want to talk about is the ugly, the battle minigame part. I'm not going to sugarcoat it, but it was really meh and it didn't do it for me. It is just a really easy rhythm game that is disguised as a sort of shooting game. The visual effects were not the best either, where it's just a bunch of PNGs appearing on the screen, you shoot it down, and the PNG fades away. No complex animation whatsoever, making it feel really cheap (in reality i do believe this is the aspect they cut the budgets for the most). Also, as it is a "battle", they also included skills and buffs that you can get by performing well (hitting Perfect judgement multiple times) but again, they feel really lackluster and out of place. I kind of understand that they made an already easy rhythm game easier with the skills so that even players that don't play rhythm game the best can enjoy the game too, though. They play full size existing songs of theirs in the battle, and they also include dialogues mid fight which was the saving grace for the experience, otherwise i really think it was quite boring and a bit unbearable. The whole thing just felt like it was either rushed, or they had an idea that didn't make it into fruition, eventually ending up as this quite empty experience that just stands out when other aspects of the game were really polished. Overall, the price tag might seem on the pricier side when compared to visual novels in general (and also considering how many hours you can get out of it). I'm definitely biased on writing this review since i'm a big Kamitsubaki fan and this piece reminded me of Key's "Rewrite" in a way, which was a very impactful piece for me. However i'd still recommend this game as a usual visual novel game because the story alone is just worth it in my opinion.

I would say i'd recommend this to existing kamitsubaki fans or maybe fans who are interested, but for people looking for a good story, I can't say i would wholeheartedly recommend it (i have only finished Haru's route). I feel that maybe, at the end of the game's true ending there might be an insane payoff(?) but i don't know about playing through 30 hours of content to get there. Eitherway, as a Haru fan, I enjoyed seeing the characters interact and being put in more different situations and how they react to it. This is because i am already invested in a character. Story beats are a little predictable too. The mini game kinda annoys me that sometimes it doesn't match up to the beat of the music being played and the SFX is delayed by half a beat. I am playing the English localization of the game and gotta say that, i feel like they need to sound a little more human i guess. Otherwise, interesting game, but only if you're already a kamitsubaki fan POST TRUE ENDING REVIEW okay. The true route despite being trope-y, but as a fan of just jrpgs i liked it regardless. the the different route offer interpretations of what the enemies are like in their view and you can see the details start to coalesce into one coherent narrative. But i have to say that there are moments i have to utilize the suspension of disbelief, but i guess in the context of the game, it makes sense(?) and echoing my early impressions, it does take 30+ hours to get to the good part, and from the perspective of someone who doesn't really know the Kamitsubaki talents going in, i don't know if they would stay for the ride for that long. in terms of the story writing, they utilize several tropes, which i guess i would turn a blind eye on, since it is their 1st game. But really this would really turn newcomers away. From the viewpoint of a fan, i really liked the EMERGENCE part of the story where they aligned the story in game to every IRL events that occurred chronologically to form the VWP. That was an absolute treat. tl;dr, If you're already a fan of the kamitsubaki talents, please by all means do play the game, pretty sure you'd enjoy it. Otherwise, the 30 hour entry is going to be daunting

As a long time fan of Kamitsubaki's artist. I've waited for this game to come out. - Gameplay Standard Visual Novel style. The battles are in a rhythm game style and very easy. - Story Those who have followed V.W.P from the start should be familiar with the story. The story might be corny to newcomers but it's on par with most Anime/Manga/VN/LN nowadays. The story targets the teenage audience so it won't be super dark nor overly convoluted. The game definitely increase my enjoyment of the concerts (e.g. SINKA series) and V.W.P's MVs. - Music Some good remixes and some bad. Overall, the song choices are well chosen for the story. The new songs are also great! - Voice acting I was a bit sceptical at first as everyone are singers and not actors but they really exceeded my expectation. Seeing how they got very high profile voice actors for other characters, they were able to perform at a level that weren't jarring at all. Overall, if you are a V.W.P fan, this is a must play. It will help you immerse yourself into what PiedPiper was envisioning for Kamitsubaki city projects as a whole, hence allowing you to enjoy the music more!

Peak, pick up the game Observer✋😎🤚 This game is packed with story and lore you've been waiting for if you're a fan, or a good spread of a glimpse into Kamitsubaki's world if you're interested even slightly. It's a story concerned with getting you emotionally invested with its concepts and characters, helped by a good helping of tropes (for good or for worse). The story has slice of life moments, heavy and DARK beyond whatever expectations you set, but leaves you with Hope as you persevere through it. There are moments where the story feels preachy and long, but it has high emotional moments if you give it a chance to tell. Amazing artworks, fully voice acted scenes, OSTs that gets you immersed into a story beat. Kamitsubaki City Regenerate is a game oozing with style that leaves you in awe from their unbridled passion for their craft, and I love every bit of it. The game starts slow, but starts picking up steam after the first 3 main chapters. A lot of the bigger questions and mysteries are answered, but you're left with even bigger and more questions. The game does a good job at getting you caught up with the flow of things, you could easily lose 24h+ by refusing to put down the game (I know I did). The second half of the game is very good at keeping you absorbed, but it's also a long and heavy last half of the game, take this review as a caution for length. That being said, though, there are a few nitpicks to point out. The most glaring issue is audio balancing, specifically in terms of Voice recordings. Some characters are quiet, some are loud, and sometimes the audio peaks and takes you out of a moment. I don't know how "solvable" this issue is as a developer, but it is something to keep in mind to players if you're someone that's a bit more sensitive to audio (I've found that keeping the volume relatively low helps). There are moments where simultaneous voices speak and it's all blasted in the same volume, Not Good. A smaller complaint, maybe closer to a peeve, is the English localization. It's great that they're trying to make every dialogue easygoing and digestible to English speakers, but at times there are terms that leaves you reeling because they're not ones you hear often. Nowhere near a bad thing, but it is another small thing that could take your attention out of the story for a few seconds. TL;DR I would fight the world for these girls, Again. 10/10 game

this game is: - a fanservice for existing fans - a good starting point for new fans/prospective fans - another VN for VN fan The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian self-sustainable city, where you and your girl gains magical power through singing to fight monsters etc etc........ tropes that you'll find in other media. The main selling point here is the girls. This game serves as a showcase for the five characters from Kamitsubaki's V.W.P. (Virtual Witch Phenomenon) virtual singers: - Kafu Morisaki: KAF - Rime Tanioki: RIM - Haru Asanushi: Harusaruhi - Sekai Yorukawa: Isekaijoucho - Koko Rinne: KOKO - and other virtual singers from Kamitsubaki as side/supporting characters Their story will be fitting of each singer's persona, and alongside you'll listen some of the original songs the vsingers have to offer. I appreciate this game because it's one of few Kamitsubaki medias available in full english, and I hope anyone who are already a fan can show how cool/adorable the witches are with this game.
