Until Dawn remains remains one of the strongest cinematic horror games of the last decade, blending teen slasher clichés, psychological tension, and choice-driven storytelling into an experience that still feels surprisingly effective today. The premise is simple: eight friends reunite at a remote mountain lodge one year after a tragic disappearance. What begins as awkward reunion drama quickly spirals into something much darker involving masked killers, supernatural threats, and paranoia among the group. The game’s biggest strength is presentation. Camera angles mimic horror cinema, jump scares are expertly timed, and the snowy mountain setting creates constant unease. Even years later, the atmosphere holds up remarkably well. The use of motion capture and performances from actors like Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere gives the characters more personality than most horror games manage. Unlike many narrative games that only create the illusion of choice, Until Dawn genuinely changes depending on player decisions. Characters can live or die based on small actions, quick-time events, or dialogue choices made hours earlier. The “ Butterfly Effect ” system is simple but effective because it constantly reminds players that every decision may have consequences later. Saving everyone on a first playthrough is difficult, which gives the game strong replay value. For its era, the game looked excellent, especially facial animations and lighting. The remastered versions improve texture quality and environmental detail further, though some animations still show their age. Sound design deserves special praise. Whispering winds, creaking wood, distant screams, and sudden silences constantly build tension. The soundtrack supports the cinematic tone without overwhelming scenes. Until Dawn succeeds because it understands exactly what kind of experience it wants to deliver: a highly replayable interactive slasher movie where player choices shape who survives. It may not offer deep gameplay systems, but its atmosphere, branching narrative, memorable set pieces, and effective horror pacing make it one of the standout narrative horror games of its generation. 10/10 DISASTER | BAD | MEDIOCRE | OKAY | GOOD | GREAT | AMAZING | MASTERPIECE Reviewed on: Win11 Home 64-bit, Intel i5-11600K, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB PRIME, 32GB DDR4-3600 RAM, 2 x Kingston NV1 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, Internet Broadband 1000/1000 Mbit If you like this review, then please consider giving it a thumbs up. Let’s start with the fact that Until Dawn (2024) is yet another game stuck somewhere between a remaster and a remake. That’s why I believe asking $60 for it is too much, especially considering that earning the Platinum trophy takes no more than 20–25 hours. However, at a 50% discount, the deal becomes far more appealing. I’m replaying this project many years later, alone at night, at home, with windows overlooking a grove while snow is falling outside. That makes the experience especially interesting for me - I’ve grown older, yet I still roughly remember how I felt about the key story twists when I first experienced them as a teenager playing the original. Now, after another thoughtful playthrough, I can confidently say that the game is worth your time. And I won’t mind replaying it once again in a year or so.

One of the best experiences of this kind of "movie night" game, the remaster has done it wonders. An engaging and interesting story, well-defined characters that you grow to love (some more than others, sorry, Emily), and moments of genuine tension and fear for the lives of these characters. However, I value these games primarily for their multiplayer aspect. The possibility of sitting down with friends, each choosing a character, and enjoying a "live your own adventure" horror night together is priceless to me. In this game... I don't see that as much. In the 9 hours the game lasts, there are characters that are only playable for what seems like just a few minutes, which would leave someone staring at the screen without touching the controller for loooong hours. So, in short, for a single-player experience, it's incredible, highly recommended. To play with friends... look for other games, like one of Dark Anthology or The Quarry, which also have a Remote Play Together option, something Until Dawn doesn't.

look the game is good. Graphics got an upgrade but animations still look unnatural sometimes. The thing is this game is 10 years old and dosent deserve this price point IMO.

The story is both very difficult and easy. I've been playing for 8 hours, and a horrific ghost is being made. Anyway, I'm lighting a candle in the darkness. I can actually protect my friends. I won't leave them alone. See you in the final very soon. Rating ; 9.3 / 10
