Pushing 16k hours in this game you'd think that it was the best game ever; but truthfully it's pretty dope. Whilst other reviews will down vote the f4 shop (which a lot of Freemium games have), they'll downvote this and downvote that, there's never the perfect game for every audience. But what Lost Ark brings to the MMO table is a truly unique experience unlike anything I've ever had before in the plethora of MMOs I've been or had played. In a world where the MMO genre is pretty tired, Lost Ark's very explosive, determined, fast-paced combat system, their dynamic vertical progressions (which can be a negative at times, but it's never meant to be a sprint, it's always always been a marathon), a number of beautiful landscapes and biodiverse biomes with illustrious NPCs and monsters alike, paired with a number of contents outside of pure raiding, comes a fresh take on the idea of how an MMO should be. Am I glazing the game? Yeah for sure, 16k hours is a lot, more than probably any other I've put except for maybe WoW, but even WoW has it's faults and it learns from those mistakes and tries to fix them, Lost Ark is no exception, it has failed it's gamer base and brought itself back up and continued to improve year after year. Smilegate RPG is based in Korea and Koreans MMO gamers have a slightly different way of approaching their MMOs, and most of the Western world doesn't really see the game like they do, but we adapt, as gamers, because that's what we do. We adapt, and we either like it enough to struggle-bus through it until it feels good or we move on. It's as simple as that. For me I raid with a group of friends I've now had for the better part of 3 years, who despite some scheduling turmoil have become almost a pillar in my day, checking in with their character progression or just asking how they're doing. The one major recommendation I'll make to playing Lost Ark is, make friends, find a community either through some social media or reddit, or a streamer from Twitch, Youtube, Kick or the likes. This will many times over, improve your time spent in the world of Arkesia. If you've read this far, then I hope you give Lost Ark a chance, it's not an easy game by any means. It'll take some time, there'll be some bumps and you might not always agree with the system in front of you, but at the end of the day, you will have tried and played the best combat system game, I personally think, ever made. Ok so imma finally gonna leave a review. I'm a returning player that has played since alpha. This is what I think of the state of the game: For a new player that's never played a Korean MMO, its grindy and has RNG systems for progressing. It has p2w leaned mechanics for end game. Not necessary but will get u there faster. If that's a pass in your book, try the game. You're given power passes (every release of a new class) which boost your level up to (currently tier 4) skipping all old content. If you start fresh, you'll most likely have to do all old raids for progression solo and imo can be a rough experience especially the current T3 honing currency. Its still required gold instead of silver. We are supposed to get an update soon. (As of 2/4 this change has been implemented.) With Guardian Knight (the newest class) being released in Feb 2026 there will be a new power pass. With that being said, its a pretty game with unique classes. Designed with Unreal engine 3. Director said they will not upgrade and keep this engine. Amazon Game Studio is the publisher and I can tell you from experience that the customer service is horrid. Don't expect them to help you recover anything over a month ago. Customer Service Representative told me they only keep purchasing records for a month. (on a long break i lost most skins, including my founders skin and mount) I'm an MMO veteran and can say the true action combat system and raids so far have been the best experience I've had so far within the genre. I really love Lost Ark's combat, raids are fun and over time it has become less grindy due to an increasing amount of events and bound gold coming into the picture. However, if you plan to raid without being in an active guild, without playing solo modes, or don't have a 3-4 other people to play with I recommend you stay away. Lost Ark's community is sadly extremely gate keepy, and even worse the game/AGS doesn't really try to stop it. Which sucks cuz the game is otherwise really fun
I used to live and breathe this game from launch until around 2024, but eventually burned out and quit. I came back about three weeks ago, and I’ve got to say a lot has changed for the better. They’ve fixed many of the frustrating issues with dailies and other systems. It took me almost no time to catch up to current endgame, so if you're thinking about playing or returning, I'd definitely give it another shot.
