Chaotic spellcasting co-op fun. Mixing elements to create wild spells never gets old, especially with friends.

Magicka 2 continues the series’ focus on chaotic spellcasting and cooperative play. The core mechanics revolve around combining elemental inputs to create custom spells, and this system remains both deep and unpredictable. The game expects players to experiment, and as a result, no two encounters feel identical. Combat is fast and often unforgiving. Mastery requires remembering elemental combinations under pressure while dodging enemy attacks. Friendly fire is always on, which can lead to accidental disasters. This mechanic may frustrate some players but also creates memorable moments when coordination works or collapses spectacularly. The campaign offers a mix of linear levels and varied environments. Each stage introduces new enemy types, hazards, and small puzzles to solve using magic. While the story is relatively light, its humor fits the tone. Dialogue and visual jokes target fantasy tropes, keeping the experience playful rather than serious. Co-op is the strongest part of the game. Local and online modes let teams coordinate spells or sabotage each other unintentionally. The difficulty curve feels tuned for groups, and playing solo can be noticeably tougher. Communication improves survival dramatically, as synchronized strategies make a difference in later encounters. Progression is customization-focused. Robes, staffs, and artifacts modify spell effects and passive bonuses. These options encourage experimentation and replay value. Different loadouts can shift your role from offense to support or crowd control, depending on the situation. Visually, the game uses a clean art style with vibrant spell effects. Sound cues for different elements provide clarity during chaotic fights, helping players track what is happening. Performance is stable, and load times are short on modern hardware. Overall, Magicka 2 succeeds when players embrace its playful chaos. It rewards skill and experimentation but can punish disorganization. It is best enjoyed with friends who are willing to learn the system and laugh through the inevitable magical accidents.

Played with a friend, great fun. It is more of a PVP than a PVE game since your friend is your biggest enemy.

Magicka 2 - The game that teaches you to spell...literally. This game took what the first game had, massive potential and a great sense of humour and multiplied that by 2 (the game's number) and it's a super fun game to jam with a couple of friends! One thing that I would like to mention is this game adds movement while priming and even casting spells which is completely different from the movement mechanics of the first game. Still, after getting used to it, it handles a lot better and looks a ton better than the first game. Highly recommend if you liked the first game! The spells are even the same if you have some "pro" strats from that game. One thing that absolutely destroys in this game - The black hole (life + death colliding)!

Pros - fun to play with friends, new story, the dialogue is funny and interesting. - new interactions with making spells like arcane (now called death) + water = poison, cold+death shooting at someone using fire+death make a secondary explosion which is pretty neat to experiment with the different spells interacting with friends! Cons - Achievement hunting is needlessly tedious with grindy achievements like elimate your friends 1000 times, perish 1000 times... Would've been much better if it was maybe 200 at max. - The challenge set of achievements on bananas difficulty is a slog to get through but that's really the only TRUE challenging bit of content in the game.
