This VN has so many different CGs it's mind-blowing. The characters are also really funny. Marco is a great main character, way different that you normally see in visual novels. Worth it full price.

This is a really good story, really. At first I thought this was just an ordinary cartoon visual novel, but in the end my tears fell because the story emphasized the relationship between the two of them that remained unbroken and that was amazing for me. Great story, great ending!

A visual novel centering around galactic treasure hunters Marco and Arco and their search for a certain treasure on earth. It is a very strange experience, it can get very dark (especially with anything involving the main villain) but is otherwise upbeat and energetic. Very energetic, things feel like they're moving constantly and it can be a little hard to keep up, but that's part of the charm in a way, and it can also do melancholy and melodrama well too. The characters themselves run the spectrum personality wise from as energetic as the game to much more reserved, but their interactions are still pleasant to witness. The game's art is also a visual feast, helped by the large amount of CGs present. There are also occasional animated segments in a different artstyle that are also very entertaining to watch. The music is very good and usually elevates the scenes it's used in, though it can feel a little over the top at times (I should probably have adjusted the volume more). Overall it's a fun trip that I can strongly recommend to those looking for a VN on the stranger side.

I'm only a couple hours into the game yet, so I'm not going to / can't review the story. But being a tinkerer, I noticed two issues. First, the frame rate is unlimited by default, runs at over 1500 FPS on my gaming PC, if you’re running on battery, it just eats your battery for no good reason. There is a frame rate limit option in advanced settings, but it’s buggy, when set to 60 FPS, it actually runs at around 80~90 FPS according to steam FPS overlay or RTSS. As for the solution, using nvidia control panel to force V-Sync works, dxvk also works, special-k might work but I didn’t test. Second, it uses WMV9 video, in Full HD 23.976 FPS, which IMHO is a terrible choice, there’s a “OPTIONAL Video Performance Patch”, which converts the video to MPEG1, this is probably the first time I’ve ever seen MPEG1 in Full HD… and the quality degradation is very noticeable. As for why this is bad, first of all, WMV9 is a DVD-era thing, technically it *supports* Full HD but it never intended to, for Full HD the industry standard is AVC/H.264, which is hardware accelerated, if you’re so into Microsoft, the counterpart would be VC1 which is also hardware accelerated. I tried to play this on an old thin laptop with a low power 7Y54 processor, the video plays but laggy, and leads to A-V desync after a while, for the record, the processor has hardware decoding support for AVC and HEVC at 4K. As for the video patch, MPEG1 is a VCD-era (240p) thing. It’s probably the sole reason why this is not deck certified, since the animation simply won’t play, it’s solvable by protontricks wmp9 though. On a side note, I suspect it’s likely not tokyotoon’s fault, but rather a limitation from the engine. Another thing about the engine, I tried extracting the video and play it in mpv, it plays smoothly on that 7Y54 processor at just around 30% CPU usage, so the engine is not efficient in this regard.
