I had bought this before, but refunded it due to unoptimized performance. I decided to give it a second chance, and little did I know, there existed a guide to get this game to properly work. All it took was deleting two specific .dll files, and just like that, everything worked as intended. I do not honestly know why those two files was the main cause of everything screwing up beforehand. Now I can finally experience this great game. It definitely beats playing MSMR over and over and over again. You may not have the best luck getting this to run like I did, so buy at your own risk. My PC Specs aren't the greatest either. I only have 16 GB of RAM for crying out loud! So if the game can work for me, albeit with a little tinkering, that says a lot.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - Spectacular Swinging, Uneven Landing The swinging and traversal? Spectacular. The expanded New York City? Amazing. The gameplay and combat? Friendly. The story? The real final boss. I absolutely loved Marvel's Spiderman and Miles Morales, so it's almost ironic that Spiderman 2 ended up being such a disappointment for me. I was so excited to play it that I bought it at only a 22% discount, and honestly, I wish I'd waited for a bigger sale. One thing Insomniac absolutely nailed was traversal. The Web Wings are fantastic and completely change how you move around the city. Combined with the expanded map including Brooklyn and Queens getting from one side of New York to the other is genuinely fun. Traversal never became a chore, and I often found myself swinging around simply because it felt so good. It's just a shame that the Statue of Liberty is fully visible yet remains inaccessible despite all the new traversal mechanics. With how fluid the Web Wings and water traversal feel, I genuinely expected to be able to visit it. Combat is another area where Spiderman 2 improves over its predecessors. Enemy AI is noticeably smarter, parries add another layer to encounters, and fights stay engaging throughout the game. I actually had to lower the difficulty because enemies became incredibly spongey on the higher settings, but I still enjoyed the challenge far more than I expected. The suit selection is also great, although I think the new Suit Styles feature is a little overblown. The opening Sandman sequence is genuinely incredible. I loved it so much that I replayed the opening three or four times just to experience it again. Unfortunately, after that incredible start, the game never quite reaches those same highs again. Kraven is an interesting villain, but I never felt like the game explored him deeply enough. Venom has some fantastic moments as well, but the overall story never landed for me the way Spiderman or Miles Morales did. What I loved about the previous games was how grounded they felt. Peter wasn't just saving New York, he was struggling to balance his personal life, dealing with impossible choices, and facing villains he shared genuine history with. Every major confrontation carried emotional weight because you understood what both sides had lost. The Spiderman I know and love has always been a grounded hero. He's optimistic despite constantly getting beaten down by life. He loses more than he wins, yet he always finds a reason to keep moving forward. His relationships with villains are rarely black and white as they're built on history, regret, respect, and sometimes even friendship. Marvel's Spiderman 1 captured that beautifully. Spiderman 2, on the other hand, often felt more focused on spectacle than those personal relationships. It felt like the game was chasing the emotional highs of Marvel's Spiderman 1 instead of naturally building toward its own. That's why so many of its emotional moments fell flat for me. There are moments that absolutely work. Peter and Harry's relationship is easily one of the strongest parts of the game, especially during the high school mission. Many memorable characters from the previous games also return, and it was genuinely nice helping them again through their side missions while seeing some of their stories come to a close. But the overall pacing felt strange, the emotional moments rarely landed, and by the time the credits rolled, I never got that same feeling of accomplishment that Spiderman and Miles Morales gave me. I still had an amazing time swinging through New York and fighting crime, but unlike Spiderman and Miles Morales, this isn't a story I'll be thinking about years from now. Overall, I enjoyed my time with Spider-Man 2, but I'd recommend waiting for a bigger discount. Performance Contrary to the common opinion that Spiderman 2 performs poorly on PC, I actually had a fairly smooth experience after a few tweaks. The single biggest improvement was updating Direct Storage to version 1.3. This alone fixed around 90% of the stutters I experienced. (Version 1.4 Beta was noticeably stutterier on my system.) The Nexus Mods mod "Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Ultimate Performance Fix" simply updates the required Direct Storage DLLs, making this an easy change to apply. Since the game is also quite CPU-heavy, adding -high to the Steam launch options helped improve overall smoothness. If you're still experiencing heavy stuttering, try disabling Windows Fullscreen Optimizations and running the game as Administrator. Frame Generation also made a noticeable difference in frame pacing for my system. This is what I used for playing at 1440p : [*]60 FPS — DLSS Performance, Frame Generation Off, RTSS Async Mode [*]90 FPS — DLSS Balanced, Frame Generation On, RTSS Front Edge Async Mode For textures, I'd recommend: [*]Medium Textures — Smoothest overall experience. [*]High Textures — Noticeably better visuals, especially while web swinging or exploring detailed indoor environments, but 8 GB of VRAM starts to struggle and introduces occasional stutters.

The combat and swinging is better than the last 2 games BUT this game has weaker writing and a rushed story that doesn't make me want to replay it as much as the first game did. Giving it a positive review because I'm a biased Web of Shadows fan and love the symbiote city takeover. they made MJ chopped af...
