Hey, so the below review is a little outdated! Some of my points still stand but the team seems to be listening to the playerbase quite well. For example, the latest limited events have become permanent. For reference they included songs so that is great. Although it took quite some time, they also took my feedback about a bug affecting users whose OS were set to certain languages. This didn't affect many and they still fixed it so my review remains positive. I still won't remove my "harsh comments" because MAN the timings are tight, we need optimization for linux and an auto calibration feature. But it's a good game, seems like they know what they're doing. Only gripe besides that is having to log in at least once every 7 days spent offline to continue playing. I'm simply hoping that if this game was to ever reach end of service (please don't!) it will have a permanent offline mode. EDIT: This was apparently confirmed on the discord server: the always online DRM will be removed if a shutdown happens. That's it: original review starts next paragraph. AXTORM, give us a Wacca collab, and my money is yours. Okay, despite the positive review, this is gonna be harsh, I apologize. I LOVE this game okay? everything from the aesthetics to the lineup, the funny little features here and there, and the concept itself is amazing. BUT I CANNOT in good faith recommend it right now. In fact, I am only keeping my review positive because I don't want to tank this game's score: I believe in it, but oh my god. The offset. You cannot in your right mind set such tight timings and not provide a decent offset manager. There is no automatic offset settings and I kid you not, out of the 1.5 hours I've played this game, at least an hour was just me trying to setup the offset correctly. I just can't bring myself to play it on my other devices now that it's perfectly calibrated for this one, because it was TEDIOUS. There is a menu to preview your settings. Okay, fine. It would work if it wasn't so hard to figure out when the notes should be hit, regardless of offset. I've adjusted things thinking it was perfectly fine, then played any song and realized I was completely off. This things needs a metronome, and I am not just saying that to save my dwindling sanity from the looping music I have to bear in that menu every time. I can't stress this enough: I have had better experiences on Roblox games regarding the overall setup. Roblox rhythm games are extremely janky and this one managed (on that aspect) to do worse. Though I will say, if you're insane like me and are willing to spend probably your whole 2-hours-before-you-cannot-refund-anymore on the offset, you will have an incredible experience with this game. And, obligatory Linux review: on Arch Linux, it runs. Only some 2D cutscenes on the title screen are broken (which is probably a proton issue tbh, had that with musynx not loading 2DMVs most notably), the gameplay is fine, although laggy on my end despite being wayyyy above the recommended specs: I would appreciate more graphics options in order to mitigate that. I'm going to assume the game is just poorly optimized and I hope for it to be better post early access. Zero issues on windows apart from the dreaded offset settings. Oh one last complaint. Please remove the requirement to be online to play, rhythm games End Of Service have traumatized me okay thanks!

UPDATED TO REVIEW THE FULL RELEASE: Now that the game is out of Early Access and having spent a good chunk of this past month playing, there are a lot of stuff that I both still and newly enjoy, while there are a few things that I wish they would work on. - The song list is now quite robust with a lot of great charts. There are some unlockable songs that you'll have to get via time-limited events, but I'll get to those in a bit. A great consistent mix of modern feeling tracks and songs that give off that oldschool rhythm game vibe. - I actually skimped on the Mashup Mode when I was in Early Access because I was still trying to get used to the game in general, but yeah I've been missing out. A lot of them gel pretty well together and some of them turn into hilarious meme fodder (anything with either Brain Power or the Akira Yamaoka song). If you're getting stuck in Ability Points plateau like I was, give this a shot and you'll find some cool stuff. - The ghost border customization thing is pretty cute, with some fun little unlocks to spruce up your avatar. This probably won't matter to you if you're just going to play solo/friendless, but I enjoy customizing stuff so I'm happy with it. - Personally I like how they implemented the ghost battle. You can find other players to battle and play vs their records, which is pretty laxed compared to other competitive games I've played. Now some stuff I wish they'd improve on...well, mainly just a couple of things: - This game is constantly online. Others may despise this and it's understandable. While I personally don't mind, the game has been having quite a few crashing issues since the full release. The devs have stated this might have to do with some issues with the current virtual path events, but yeah having the game randomly crash either on startup or after finishing a song doesn't feel too great. The devs did state that this game will become offline playable down the line, so that's something to look forward to. - I hope that they do something about unlockable songs being hidden away in time-limited events. Time-limited cosmetics and banners/logos are one thing, but missing out on songs because you couldn't grind isn't great. The events do last a long time, but still y'know? I also do wish that once you finish all the events, they stop showing them in the results because it's kind of unnecessarily adding more time. Overall I'm really happy with the release of the game and still recommend it, but yeah the issues are something to take note and can't be ignored. It's a shame that these could be dealbreakers because the game itself is really well-made and polished otherwise. ---------- OLD REVIEW: This is a neat little rhythm game and surprisingly polished for early access. The timing is quite nice out the box and the lane shifting mechanic can be challenging at first, but fun once you get used to it. The soundtrack so far has been full of bangers, including tracks by NAOKI, TAG, SLAKE, and Riyu Kosaka of Bemani fame. That said, it's still early access so it's pretty barebones and might contain bugs here and there, but already it shows a lot of potential.

I was going to wait until this is out of early access to post a review, but I can't imagine the game changing drastically between now and release. I think this game is very fun. Its a visually interesting take on VSRG. This review is mostly about 4lane mode since thats what I mostly played. I did try 2 lane but I honestly found it confusing and could not get into it, which is odd since its supposed to be the "easy" version of the game. If you mostly play 4K VSRG i recommend just skipping 2lane mode altogether. The game feels intimidating at first because it feels like there's way more than 4 lanes, but there's really not. (well if we want to get technical 4lane mode has 6 lanes due to the side keys similar to DJMax). It has 10 keybindings but i never found a reason why you would ever need to use anymore than 6 keys. The track list so far is great, it has a lot of songs that arent in other rhythm games which i think is a great quality to have. The mashvp mode is great, i loved hearing the different mash ups. I like the ghost battle in concept because I doubt there are enough people playing this game to have real-time multiplayer but I dont really know whats stopping me and everyone else from just only playing against people we are better than? So other than unlocking the songs in that mode, i dont really see the point or why anyone would spend a lot of time with it. Again, great in concept and I think other rhythm games should consider having some type of battle mode that inst in real time. Maybe it would be better if you couldn't see the scores before hand? I know they said they plan on adding incentives for this mode, but I'm just not sure what they would be. The game has a lot of customization which is great because I found the default settings to be awful. The key sound for holds is just nails on a chalkboard and I was glad I could turn it off without turning off the other key sounds. The girls are always talking so I had to turn that off. My default its set to tell you every 10 combos which i think is a little overkill so i turned that off completely. I find multitap notes to be hard to read even with the brighter line connecting them turned on. My biggest complaint really is when notes are coming down both lanes i definitely feel myself going cross eyed and then i start missing notes because i cant keep up with reading them at that point, but I dont know what the solution for that would be other than to not have the lanes split during those sections like it does on some songs. This game is very loud which isnt a complaint obviously i can just turn my headphones down, but it was alarming the first time i turned the game on because I havent really experienced that with any other game I play and my headphones are always set to the same volume. I think a lot of the songs have a big difficulty gap. I think all Hard 6 charts should be moved to Normal and new charts be made to lessen the gap because right now a lot of songs difficulty gaps go from wow this painfully slow and boring to wow this is not enjoyable and I wish it wasn't like that. Listen, I wish I could no-life all of my games, but at the end of the day I'm just a person who works and plays a lot of games (a lot of them being rhythm games specifically) so i dont have time to "get gud" at every game so if I want to sit down for a couple of hours and just jam out with a rhythm game I would like it to be at difficulty that isnt so hard that its frustrating but not so boring that I dont want to play at all, so to me, it feels like a lot of songs have a chart missing or a difficulty, honestly i think theyd be fine moving all Normal charts to Beginner and reworking normal and hard charts but thats just probably a me problem. Anyway, if you like VSRG you'll have fun with this one. I do look forward to watching this one grow, so I hope more people play it.

A beautiful reinterpretation of the rhythm genre. It's a lot of fun to get used to the new mechanics and master them. The sidetracks/shifts are used a lot, but you can reassign all keys and also bind two different keys to each one in case your little fingers get tired. The music selection is great and once you have worked your way through the freeplay mode you can then mix the songs in the mashup mode with a preset selection of 3 songs to play something new. My only suggestion would be to improve the video quality of the loading screen transition when starting a song, as it looks like 720p on my 1080p monitor.

Early impressions of this are super positive! This already has really solid polish and a great starting tracklist, and the mash-up gimmick is while a lot more simple than it sounds (select songs have 3 remixes combining other tracks from the game), it's where a lot of the highlight marquee levels are and are a blast to play. This is the closest a rhythm game release on Steam has felt to classic / modern BEMANI sensibilities in terms of game design and vibes, which is not a surprise because this is from both Naoki Maeda and TAG of ex-DDR fame. This is seriously good stuff and I'm looking forward to playing even more of this and seeing the new modes + how it develops throughout early access. Absolutely give this a play!
