In case you're curious, it is possible to beat the game without ever casting a spell. I finally managed it, final levels: Madeleine- Level 859 Klepon- Level 857 Bagel- Level 201 The bottle neck is Magma Core. The damage every round makes it almost impossible. It comes down to RNG on Klepon dodging the bursts and surviving long enough to finish the boss. After that the Demon King was easy. Sadly, there's no "The Party and the Useless Master Healer Kale" achievement for this. :( Haven't done Nightmare mode yet. I was able to get through the Wolves Den at their current level and unlock the Training Facility, so I expect it's possible, but would require insane amounts of grinding. The Magma Core would probably be the bottleneck again and would need Klepon to be strong enough to rapidly DPS everything down.

This game woke up my dormant, power-tripping support main instincts, reminding me of the good old days when I could legally play God and let toxic DPS players bleed out for their sins.

TL;DR: 8/10, especially at this price point. Expect to get 6, maybe 7 hours of fun out of this. This game feels like the simulated experience of playing as a Healer in MMORPG's. The tank's asleep, the archer re-spec'ed and has no idea how to play, and the mage is an ego-maniac. I mean, this only happens to a Healer on a day ending in Y. Your job is to heal the party, maybe dole out some buffs, and very rarely remove debuffs. It isn't very complicated although there are some small strategies to optimize your use of finite resources. The heal-over-time ability is best used on the tank. The insta-cast heal punishes your panicked use of its high cost and low reward. And if you time the use of Cast All correctly, you can get a huge boost of damage output. The first five zones are simply numbers games, while the second five zones include quirks. Start out with a slow, 40% damage taken, or lose mana gradually over time. The skill tree is divided into mindless "increase damage by %" parts and more interesting synergy nodes. Like scoring a chance on hit to apply a shield to the mage and the tank, with the tank being able to boost the effectiveness of their shields. Overall, the gameplay loop is very satisfying. So much so that I replayed it after realizing I got 1 out of 38 achievements from my first 100% save file. Probably a bug or oversight with carrying over progress from a demo save file. Which is when I could take a step back and realize that the archer character is completely dead weight. Seriously, they exist only to apply debuffs to the enemy so that the real damage dealer -- the mage -- can deal slightly more damage. I specced exclusively into the mage nodes of the skill tree this second time around, beat the game, and got to Zone 8 of Nightmare Mode before I had to begrudgingly keep the stupid archer alive to apply debuffs. The archer has skill nodes that lean into extra loot rewards from enemies but that extra loot pales in comparison to simply skipping ahead 6 or 7 zones and getting 500% more currency that way. A post-launch balancing effort would not be remiss.

I have played a lot of cheap incremental games over my gaming career, and a lot of them start to feel samey and uninspired over the past year. Most of them fall into the mold of "square arena, move your mouse to kill things in a certain area with very basic or lame graphics. I lost count of how many of these I have refunded here on steam. But not this one. This game is awesome, very addicting with charming graphics and actually build variety in what spells you wanna use. Do you spend a lot of mana to shield your allies or do you prefer to save your precious resources to cast AOE healing when needed? It is very fun to figure out how do you wanna keep your party alive. Seriously guys, even if you are a jaded incremental gamer like me, give this one a chance. It is clear the dev not only put a lot of effort into this, but that they are very talented and understand how to make a compelling game loop with meaninful upgrades. It is WELL worth the asking price, I would easily pay double for this gem.
