Far from perfect, but a fun way to spend an afternoon. Important caveat, this "incremental" has no prestige mechanic, i.e. no resetting or exponential scaling as is commonly seen in other incrementals. Beyond the ability to refund the skill tree so you can try a different combination of skills, it's fairly linear. The "incremental" element comes from how mechanically you keep gaining ability points and gold to grow stronger in incremental steps. I've been trying to think if this would fall into a different category, but nothing better comes to mind. It's not a rogue-lite/legacy game where you reset each run, it's just constant incremental progression. There's also nothing idle about this, you'll be engaged and actively playing the whole time. Altogether, a mechanically interesting and engaging experience, but left me with plenty of minor gripes. The controls can feel a bit wonky towards the end game where you're juggling every skill off cooldown. The graphics can bug out occasionally when party members are KO'd and then revived. The music is great, but the SFX leaves something to be desired. The bong when trying to use an spell with no mana in particular grates on the ear in an unpleasant way. The "dialogue" between party members at each story step although quaint and moderately humorous is in an awkward broken English which is unfortunate. Pacing, sometimes, can feel a bit off, moving forward in bursts due to how the skill tree can suddenly grant jumps in power level, before you run into the next wall and need to grind. I didn't run into any dead ends or painful grinds in my playthrough (only needing to reset once while cleaning up achievements), but I do get the sense it is possible to pick an ineffective collection of skills in the mid-game and make yourself miserable if you don't know it's possible to reset the tree and try something else. But, the mechanics do allow you to just grind your way out if you so desire. The Nightmare Mode (e.g. NG+) gives the game a fun second wind, and being able to revisit levels in any order your desire smooths over that DPS check with the timed underwater zone nicely (save it for later, if you haven't unlocked haste and might). Ultimately, would recommend, I got my money's worth.
Game is great. As a healer in MMOs I'm always seeking solo games where you heal and this scratched a little of that itch. For 5 bucks it's a definite buy. Any more and probably not purely because of the length of the game. In total game time I 100%'d it in probably 4 hours (a lot of my shown time was afk). If there is ever DLC or a sequel I will 100% be purchasing it.
In case you're curious, it is possible to beat the game without ever casting a spell. I finally managed it, final levels: Madeleine- Level 859 Klepon- Level 857 Bagel- Level 201 The bottle neck is Magma Core. The damage every round makes it almost impossible. It comes down to RNG on Klepon dodging the bursts and surviving long enough to finish the boss. After that the Demon King was easy. Sadly, there's no "The Party and the Useless Master Healer Kale" achievement for this. :( Haven't done Nightmare mode yet. I was able to get through the Wolves Den at their current level and unlock the Training Facility, so I expect it's possible, but would require insane amounts of grinding. The Magma Core would probably be the bottleneck again and would need Klepon to be strong enough to rapidly DPS everything down.
