You play as Harrod, a burnt-out writer struggling with a writer's block. Not only has his sister dumped her son on him to look after, but his agent sends him to the famous Mercury Abbey sanatorium, which is said to heal the body and soul... From technical point of view, game is a 2D pixelart set in a quite unique setting. Technologically and aesthetically, it is the early XX century, but with one, crucial twist – there is an open acknowledgment of the existence of magic. Although it has mostly fallen out of favor due to scientific progress, it has not ceased to exist. The various political and social consequences, as well as the duality of the world resulting from this fact, are well presented here. The entire cast of NPCs has been very well designed. Mutual interactions, animosities, and the concealment of true opinions or feelings are perfectly portrayed. A standout feature is the game’s structure, which mirrors a novel. Each chapter starts from a written introduction - a subtle reference to Harrod's profession, as well as a hint about the game itself. Unfortunately, there are also some negatives. In their previous game, the puzzles were needlessly complicated, while here, they're disappointingly simplistic. They offer no challange nor satisfaction. Other problem is the fact, that english translation isn't very good. Linguistic errors break the player's immersion in the game, but I wouldn't say that they hinder progress in any way. The real problem, is that the quality of the language is lower than you would expect in a game of this genre. Would I recommend it? Yes. It's a great detective story with a plot that completely surprised me. Overall, the quality of the game is high, and despite shortcomings, I think it's worth buying. ✅ [*] Retro style pixel art. Pleasant, stunningly detailed and overall well-executed. There is a clear improvement in quality compared to the previous game. It is evident that the developers feel more confident in their chosen graphic style, in which they have gained experience. [*] UI – well-designed, clear, and concise. It does its job, is easy to use and navigate. [*] We have access to 2 protagonists, each with their own unique style of gameplay. Harrod, whose gameplay is based more on traditional investigation, and Willie, whose gameplay is based on more traditional platform sequences. [*] Story is really good, on par with good detective novels. It is complex, but not overly so, with many intertwining plots. An attentive player will surely notice a few things and begin to formulate their own theories about what is happening and who is „main villian”; but the game does not make any mistakes and keeps the answers until the very end. [*] Findable lore (notes, items, photos etc.) providing political, historical and miscellaneous information about the world. Attention to detail, both minor and major, as well as a journal full of facts and descriptions of each animal that inspired a specific character. This has also been done better than in the previous game and is much harder to overlook. [*] I find puzzles a way easier than in their previous game, yet, they still provide a respite from the game’s routine. [*] Game rewards careful exploration. There are various secrets hidden in-game as a reward for a curious explorer. [*] Toggleable sprint. It may seem like a small detail, but in games like this, it's often an essential option. This also avoids wasting the player's time. [*] Achievements are easy to obtain. Most are closely tied to the storyline itself, and you'll get the rest if you're thorough and attentive. 😐 [*] Game autosaves and overwrites oldest saves, thus if you’ve missed something you might be forced to replay the chapter instead of loading earlier save. [*] Soundtrack is ok, but there aren’t any memorable pieces there. Does its job, but it doesn't stand out in any particular way. ❌ [*] Inconsistency in game design. In some locations, you can go back a little and visit a previously missed place/alley, etc., while in others it is not possible. The same problem applies to puzzles – some of them allow you to quickly look at your notebook for clues, while others do not. [*] In previous games, the puzzles were unnecessarily complex and overly complicated, but here, unfortunately, they have gone in the completely opposite direction and they are too simplistic. I don't think, that game developers have yet managed to find the perfect balance in this regard. [*] Sometimes 3rd party sounds (gramophone, npc’s eating) drown out everything else. [*] Lack of any voice acting. [*] English translation leaves much to be desired.

I played the game, but not yet finish it although seeing how bad the english translation makes my head feel a little dizzy when reading and I wish the devs do something with the english translation. I really love this game bought it in discount and hoping to finish it when I have the time. Still a good game for a casual gaming genre

This game was just absolutely gorgeous! I loved every character and every bit of the adventure. When I was finished I wanted to continue the adventure! I need more Uncle Harrod and Willie adventures! Especially, after that cliffhanger in the epilogue. The only critique I have is... PLEASE! Have someone go over the grammar and spelling. There were MANY times where I was struggling to understand what I just read (And I do have issues with reading, especially if I am reading out loud). Missing words, words switched around, or things just said in a very strange way that made no sense, and spelling errors. Other than that, this was a splendid game! Loved the adventure and all the characters as they were beautifully made. Well done!

Ok, let's get the furry jokes out, because this game isn't even shy about playing into that. In the first seconds of the game you get introduced to your character, a bare cheated chiseled wolfman and the game definitly isn't lacking anthropomorphic animals that are suposed to be various degrees of hot. So yeah, it's definitely furry bait. But even if you think that's weird, try and look past it because Mercury Abbey is pretty damn good. Excellent adventure game with great characters, and a thrilling mystery, fantastic pixelart and a solid soundtrack. It's unfortunate that it get dragged down a bit by a pretty bad English translation. We have everything from characters changing pronouns mid conversation, strange usage of words and phrases that's probably due to a direct translation but with no regards to how that would sound in English to outright misspelled words and things like a character that was attacked but isn't dead is constantly talked about as if they where murdered. It's not the biggest issue but I wish the devs would hire a proofreader. The game is also very kind to completionists, there is a chapter selection screen with sub-chapters so you don't even have to replay an entire chapter and even if you don't look up a guide, you can guess where to look for missing codex entries since there will be empty spots.

This was an excellent game! I thoroughly enjoyed it - for those hesitating because of the furies PLEASE don't let that stop you from playing this game - there is nothing NSFW or other furry concerns. The game is very atmospheric, art style is incredible, and the story is very strong. I was fully immersed for days. The game also plays incredibly well and you are guided seamlessly through. I didn't feel the need to look up a walk through, and I never felt stuck or frustrated. The game is incredibly well optimized very polished. I really recommend anyone on the fence to give it a try! the only critique I can really make is that there were a few typos in some of the dialogue. Additionally I found some of the dialogue with the npcs a bit long but that's a personal preference as I'm not overly patient and want to spend my time on the main plot.
