Metal Dead — 5.1h played | 13/13 achievements | South Park vibes + zombies + trash humor = guilty pleasure done right TL;DR — Hand-drawn point & click with twisted humor, heavy metal attitude, zombies everywhere, and that “I can’t believe they went there” energy. Breaks the 4th wall, stays fun, and lands its punchlines. Metal Dead is the kind of game that looks like it was drawn during a caffeine overdose in a South Park fan club… and somehow it works. It’s a hand-drawn point & click in a zombie apocalypse, but the real “combat system” here is the humor: trashy, dark, stupid in the best way, and proudly unhinged. If you don’t like twisted jokes, you’ll bounce. If you do? You’ll grin like an idiot the whole way. You’re basically following a bunch of characters trying to survive the end of the world with the emotional maturity of a drunk metalhead (compliment). The writing doesn’t try to be classy. It tries to be funny , and it often succeeds—especially when it breaks the fourth wall and starts winking at you like “yeah, we know this is absurd, come on.” The zombie setting is just the playground: the game uses it to throw situations, gags, and weird moments at you non-stop. Gameplay-wise, it’s classic point & click: explore, click, combine stuff, solve puzzles. Nothing revolutionary, but it’s paced well enough that you keep moving. Some moments are a bit “trial and error,” but the game doesn’t pretend to be a brain-melter anyway—it’s here to entertain you, not to make you write a walkthrough. Visually it’s very specific: that rough, hand-drawn, cutout style won’t be everyone’s taste, but it fits the tone perfectly. And the soundtrack? Honestly one of the highlights: it supports the heavy metal / chaos energy and keeps the vibe strong from start to finish. And yes… that shark moment . If you know, you know. Bottom line: if you want zombies + heavy metal + twisted humor with a South Park-ish aesthetic, Metal Dead is a solid recommend. Not a technical masterpiece, but a damn fun ride. A comedy P&C adventure game where a couple of metal heads have to battle a building besieged by zombies? On paper this is ticks all the right boxes, but it falls short in execution. The graphics are.. fine and also pretty consistent which feels like something I couldn't say about some more well known games. Writing and comedy is again fine and pretty tight, but the tone is somewhere between stoner and uni student. The puzzles are not complex but are a times a little obtuse. Less time wasted because you couldn't solve something, more time wasted because you didn't even realise there was an option to take an action. Wish steam offer some neutral review option, it's not that I don't recommend this game but would recommend it was caveat to temper expectations.

I don’t remember how I’ve heard of Metal Dead, why I got it or when, but I sure am happy I did. In this life of work and paying bills and running around worrying about stuff that will never happen, the crudely drawn point’n’click about two metal heads navigating zombie apocalypse by skewering and exploding the undead, marching through gore with some good choice words and an electric guitar is a soothing, bloody balm for a soul I never knew I needed. Your basic zombie survival kit includes: - Two characters that are as far from knowing how to survive on the “make it out alive” spectrum as possible. They usually have all the creative solutions. - One of these characters is just a head. I mean it in a physical sense. So, you know, less wandering more thinking. Or so you’d hope. - A supporting cast of characters that is somewhere between an aggregate of your typical zombie flicks tropes and a sudden injection of indie point’n’click silliness. - A sense of humor. Goofy and absurd, this tool is, arguably, more useful than a Swiss army knife. - Well-put together string of classic point’n’click puzzles. It involves some crazy stuff, but it all works together nicely, giant sharks included. - Adult cartoon visuals. It’s a thing. It’s somehow rudimentary and complex at the same time. Looks like an 8-year-old attempted it, but you know it took hours upon hours to create. What makes it “adult” is, of course, gore. Gore makes everything adult, wouldn’t you say? - Really solid soundtrack of the understated variety, playing up some tense moments. Just the sorta thing you’d need sticking questionable things in the zombie’s eye. - An appropriately epic conclusion, serious in its ridiculousness. Perfect for all ends-of-the-world saving scenarios. I feel like with this basic kit, you should be fully equipped to survive zombie apocalypse. It’s unfortunate that the authors who created it seem to not be in business of adventure-making anymore, but at least their legacy lives on. Comedy, gore and metal is a precious combo we need to preserve and keep in mind when (not if) the zombie apocalypse would come. And, hey, take your guitar with you, it might come surprisingly handy.
